At My Sister Knits, we like to put down our heavier knitting during the summer and opt for something lighter weight. For some of us, this means setting aside our in-progress sweaters and finding hats or shawls to make instead. Shawls are just the thing to stuff into your bag when you’re going out for the evening or might be in an air conditioned building. This summer I vow to remember to take one to the grocery store!

Wooldreamers has an intriguing yarn for spring knitting! Saona is a 50/50 wool-cotton blend, all from Spain. The wool is a blend of Merino and Manchega. The fun thing about Manchega is that it comes from Manchega sheep who are also the source of Manchego cheese! 

Today, My Sister Knits is giving you a feast for your eyes! Two fun hats have come to our attention!

Both of them use garter stitch; one uses one strand of fingering weight yarn, the other uses two strands of fingering weight yarn held together.

As I’m sitting here writing this, a cold wind is blowing and the idea of making (and wearing) a straightforward, cozy sweater is most appealing! Isabell Kraemer’s Kallias, published in September, is exactly what’s called for!

We’ve had a sample at My Sister Knits for a couple of weeks that’s captivated me. It caught my eye when I was in the shop and I finally took it down to look at it closer. The first thing that I noticed was how it felt; it was so lightweight for a sweater! I looked at the tag and it’s Joji Locatelli’s new pattern Stripy Unicorn.

Do you have your calendars marked? In just under two weeks My Sister Knits hosts Hannah Ginn of Circus Tonic Handmade! I’d like to remind everyone that this is such a special event because Hannah lives in Adelaide, South Australia! She will be in the US for a visit that just happens to be close enough to visit us!

There’s always something new happening at My Sister Knits! Julie and Diana discovered the Durand Cowl, designed by Tara-Lynn Morrison, and it’s our current obsession.

The Two-Point Cowl that is on display at My Sister Knits is a Churchmouse Classics pattern. It’s modeled after their Easy Folded Poncho that over 4,500 people have made.

My Sister Knits has a stunning cardigan on display, the Cascade Jacket designed by Lene Rix! Our sample is made with Biches and Buches Le Lambswool combined with Woolberry Berry Mohair, one strand of each held together throughout. Size 10 needles allow you to see progress quickly!

We’ve discovered a hat pattern that is perfect for your school colors! Of course, it will be good for any color combination but we especially love it to show your school spirit!
