The Quintet Shawlette - Easy and Fun
My Sister Knits has a gorgeous new shawl that we want to share with you, the Quintet Shawlette designed by Ambah O’Brien.
This shawl can be made with 5 mini skeins of fingering weight or DK weight yarn. However, ours uses four skeins of Blue Sky Fibers Metalico and one skein of Woolfolk Far.
You’ll note that there are directions for using five colors. We used the same color for C1 and C5, the same color for C2 and C4, and the Far for C3.
The polished looking i-cord edge starts on the first set up row and continues throughout. In addition to knowing how to make the knit stitch, you need to know or learn how to slip a stitch, k2tog, and kfb. We can quickly show you these in the shop or you can look up the links. This pretty shawlette is an excellent project for beginner knitters and we encourage you to try it.
The colorwork is accomplished with mosaic knitting which is just slipping stitches. It’s fun, easy, and looks impressive!
Ambah gives written instructions and graphs to work from; you can choose which you’re most comfortable using.
This shawl can be sophisticated enough to use for a dressy event or fun and casual, depending on your color choices. I have been eyeing Metalico, a luscious drapey blend of alpaca and silk, for a long time but have yet to use it because I needed a project handed to me. If you’ve done the same thing, Quintet is for you!
We encourage you to come in and play around with colors!
