Add Some Sparkle to Your Project!
We have a new sample in the shop! Did you read the newsletter about our new sparkly sequined yarn a few weeks ago and wonder how you might incorporate it into a project? If so, My Sister Knits has an answer for you!
Our new sample is the Warm Me Tee, designed by Norgardknitters, a Danish mother/daughter team. Their designs “celebrate the understated simplicity in simple, feminine, and gently oversized silhouettes, all reflecting a modern, Nordic, aesthetic”.
A close up look at the yoke.
The yoke of this delicate tee is worked with two strands of Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair. Our knitter substituted a strand of Strikke-feber Glitter & Stas for one of the mohairs and the resulting effect is a rather glamorous tee! Depending on your color choices, it could be elegant or just plain fun! Alternatively, you could use one strand of Make It Tweed if you want something a little less glittery.
This is a small sample of the colors available!
The rest of this tee is knit using 3 strands of yarn, two of Soft Silk Mohair and one of Knitting for Olive Merino. The popcorn stitch is only on the front, the back is stockinette. There’s an integrated i-Cord for the edges of the armholes which always gives such a nicely finished look.
You can have some fun with the two colors of Soft Silk Mohair if you want to be adventurous. There’s no reason they need to be the same color! One of my sweaters has a red and a hot pink Soft Silk Mohair held together and I love the result!
A few possible pairings of Knitting for Olive Merino and Soft Silk Mohair.
Knitting for Olive’s website has a page called Color Match. You choose the color of Merino that you want, go to this page and click on the color. Up pops colors of Soft Silk Mohair that would match! You can also do it the other way around, matching Merino to a color of Soft Silk Mohair that you’d like to use. That gives you some ideas of blending two colors together. Then you can make bolder choices as your confidence increases!
Math for Knitters by Kate Atherley
We have this essential book in the shop! Kate Atherley does an incredible job of putting her math degree to good use with this book! Kate is a well known knitting teacher and author. This book is easy to read and answers every question you might have about math and knitting. I was so excited when I found out she was coming out with a book. I took her Math for Knitters class several years ago and this book makes it easy to find the information I need, rather than searching for my notes and hoping for the best. This book is indispensable!
I thought this little rock that was sitting on a bench outside the shop was so pretty and I wanted to share it with you! A little gift for you, just because!
We invite you to come into the shop, play with colors of Soft Silk Mohair and Merino, play with adding some bling to your project, and browse through Kate’s book!
Happy knitting,
