The Hipster Top, Joji’s Newest!

Today My Sister Knits is continuing with ideas for summer tops. We’ve had this one on display for a few weeks now but the pattern was just released a few days ago. Finally, we can officially tell you about it!

We found out that this is actually the back but we really like it as the front!

Joji Locatelli is a well-known designer from Buenos Aires, Argentina with seven pages of patterns on Ravelry. Anyone who follows her on Instagram knows her two boys and her mom! Now and then we’ll see a photo of her husband, who is usually behind the camera.

Here’s what is meant to be the front on the back of our mannequin!

The Hipster Top is her latest pattern. She’s taken some design elements from her two Hipster Shawls and made them into a top!

Shoulder detail

Joji’s directions are simple and easy to follow. She has a video to show us how to work the Hipster Stitch pattern, also called the Indian Cross Stitch. It’s simple and fun! One of the most interesting features of this video is watching how she knits and holds her yarn. It’s different but it works! This shoulder detail is worked at the beginning as this is knit top down.

Knitting for Olive Pure Silk

We’ve had our sample showing with the v-neck in the back. We discovered that the v-neck is actually the front but we’re thinking it can be worn either way!

Knitting for Olive Cotton Merino

Our sample is made with Knitting for Olive Pure Silk. We think that there are several other yarns that would work well: Knitting for Olive Merino and Cotton Merino, Wooldreamers Saona, and Blacker Bamboozle to name a few.

Knitting for Olive Merino

This top requires no finishing work; when you’re done binding off the hem, you’re done! The neckline has a tailored edge that is worked by slipping the last two wrong side stitches purl-wise with the yarn in front.

Wooldreamers Saona

We can imagine all sorts of color combinations and we can’t wait to see what you come up with! You could go through your stash and see if there are bits and bobs of fingering weight yarn that could be used together with a neutral for the stripes.

Blacker Yarns Bam-boozle

Speaking of stripes, here is a video on how to make the join jogless when you’re knitting in the round. I’ve tried a few different ways and this one seems to be the best and I can’t wait to try it! If you use this technique, please let us know how you liked it! Better yet, bring your project in and show us!

We have received more Patty Lyons’ Knitting Bag of Tricks books. These tend to sell out quickly so if you don’t have one yet, this is your chance. Everyone needs one of these!

Happy knitting,
