A Timeless Classic Wrap for Spring Wearing

Blue Sky Fibers has some beloved classic patterns that stand the test of time. For example, My Sister Knits has a sample on display right now that has been out since 2015. Not the sample, the pattern! You may have noticed it if you’ve been in the shop lately.

The Bianca Wrap is designed for Blue Sky Fibers Suri Merino yarn, a worsted weight blend of 60% Suri Alpaca and 40% Merino. One of the great things about this lovely wrap is that it’s a project for all knitters, beginners to experienced. It starts and ends with a ribbed border. In between are lots of pretty two row stockinette stripes. The two stripe colors are carried up the sides so there is minimal weaving in of ends.

Once you’re done with the second border, you fold it in half and sew a 14” seam. The stockinette edges will gently roll under to create a soft edge and the Suri Merino gives it a graceful drape. This would be a dream to wear!

There are heaps of possibilities for color combinations! You could go soft and subtle all the way to bright and bold. Neutral to vibrant. Muted to eye-catching. I could go on but I won’t! Whatever your soul is wanting right now is perfect. Yellow is my favorite color so I think I’d use that for one of the three colors.

We came up with some three-color ideas for you to spark your imagination. You’ll need 1 skein for the main color and two each for contrast color 1 and contrast color 2 for a total of 5 skeins. The main color is used for the ribbed borders; the contrast colors are the stripes. There are two sizes, S/M and L/XL. The pattern calls for size 7 needles; it needs to be a bit loosely knit for the drape. Even though there is quite a bit of stockinette, you should make good progress on size 7s! There’s no sizing, just straight knitting. I see this as a relaxing knit to produce a warm poncho for the spring in colors you love.

You could use Fog and Snow for the stripes and colors such as Abyss, Mystic, or Autumn for the borders

If you haven’t carried two colors up the side of a project, this will help you. When you get to the seam, you can just sew a simple seam or try a mattress stitch seam if that is new to you and you feel adventurous.

Ask us for suggestions if you’d like to substitute a different yarn. It needs to be one that will drape nicely. We’ll be happy to help!

In the event you’d rather make something else with this gorgeous yarn, you can look here or here for inspiration. Or you can ask us for ideas!
