Volcano Trail Cowl
Volcano Trail, designed by Maxim Cyr, is our latest craze at My Sister Knits! Some of you may have seen the Mini-Unbearable Hoodie on display at the shop. Max designed that as well.
Bits and Bobs
My Sister Knits has some bits and bobs to tell you about! The next time you come into the shop, give yourself a few minutes to discover new items that aren’t yarn. You’ll be goggle-eyed at what you find!
Lanolin, a Natural Healer
My Sister Knits has a magical product from Cestari Sheep and Wool Company! We have jars of Natural 100% lanolin, straight off the sheep.
Get to Know Thread and Maple
Julie has discovered a special small company called Thread and Maple! T & M is owned by two women, Samantha Perrault and Olga Paskalenko. Samantha lives in Montreal and Olga lives in Toronto.
Wild Mountain Thyme
Wild Mountain Thyme is Thea Colman’s (aka Baby Cocktails) latest design, released this week! It just so happens that we have a sample that’s been waiting in the wings until the pattern was published. It’s now on display!
Who is Emma?
Building on last week’s blog post, we have a second newly arrived trunk show composed of yarn!
Emma’s Yarn has an endearing background story. Emma, a home-schooled student, was studying ratios in her math class. Since she was at home, she took the opportunity to put her knowledge to real-life use and tried dyeing yarn!
Red Stag Fibre Trunk Show
Normally, our trunk shows at My Sister Knits are composed of garments. This allows us to see how certain yarns look and feel when knit. None of the sample items are for sale but we always carry the yarn showcased in the trunk show.
Soft and Fuzzy Kentia Cowl
The Kentia Cowl, designed by Australian designer Ambah O’Brien, is a soft and fuzzy delight!
Meet Valemount
My Sister Knits has a stunning sweater sample on display that we’d like to bring to your attention. Valemount, designed by Ann-Marie Jackson for Brooklyn Tweed, is a knit that will take your mind off of everything else going on in your world!
New Year, New Knitting
The beginning of a new year often brings about contemplation of what the next 12 months will look like. This applies to our knitting also.
Bulky = Fast!
At this time of year, at the end of the holidays, we tend to want to complete a project just to feel a sense of accomplishment. We want it to be something quick and not too complicated. Our brains are tired after the hubbub of celebrating and we want something soothing.
Other Goodies
My Sister Knits carries beautiful yarn; that goes without saying. However, it’s fun to take a self-guided tour of the shop to see what else we carry!
Are You in a Yarn Rut?
Are you in a rut with your yarn choices? Do you often, if not always, choose a certain type and certain colors? Are you someone who adores knitting with fingering weight speckled yarns? Or are more rustic yarns the ones you reach for? How about preferring only the softest of the soft?
Post: A Soothing Knit
Post, a popover by designer Julie Hoover, is just the soothing knit that we all might need right now. When you’re finished you’ll have a beautiful, chic garment to keep you warm as winter descends upon us.
A Stripey Story
A simple little project can turn into an amazing learning experience. Read on for the full story of how I perfected one row stripes!
Thanksgiving Hygge
Since Thanksgiving will be different this year for most of us, we’d like to introduce the Danish concept of Hygge. Hygge (pronounced hue-guh or hoo-gah according to various sources) embodies coziness. It’s an atmosphere that makes a person feel content and comfortable by surrounding themselves with the things that make life good.
Sloppy SSKs Solved!
Today I’m going to tell you the story of a hat I just finished for my son. When I reached the decreases for the crown I was not at all happy with how they looked. The pattern calls for an ssk (slip, slip, knit) followed by a K2tog (knit two stitches together).
It's Hat Season!
My Sister Knits wants your knitting decisions to include no stress, especially during this crazy time we’re having! Toward that end, we have created kits for three hats so all you have to do is grab and go!
A Yarn Trunk Show and A Mitten
We love it when our customers tell us about something fiber-related that they love! Especially when it comes to discovering new independent dyers! Indie dyers somehow manage to give their yarns a different look than all other hand-dyed yarn and it’s fascinating.
Colorwork to Lift Your Spirits!
A cheerful colorwork project lifts our spirits and we think everyone could use some of that during these crazy times! It seems as if all of us at My Sister Knits has a project with more than one color in it on the needles right now.
