A Yarn Trunk Show and A Mitten

We love it when our customers tell us about something fiber-related that they love! It’s especially fun when it comes to discovering new independent dyers! Indie dyers somehow manage to give their yarns a different look than all other hand-dyed yarn and it’s fascinating.

Potion Yarns was brought to our attention and we now have a trunk show showing their best yarns and favorite colors! Johanna was used to working with dye and creating rich multi-tonal colors for her clients’ hair when she decided to try dyeing some yarn in order to get the exact color she wanted. Her experience with hair transferred to working with fiber and she was off and running.

Johanna, her husband, and baby live in Kansas City, Missouri. This has become a family business with her husband joining in the dye fun! Johanna uses professional quality acid dyes on superwash merino wool to create her vibrant colors.

We urge you to try an experiment with the yarns in our trunk show. Find the same color in different weights and different bases. The base will be the fiber content. For instance, Bombshell Worsted is 100% merino while Foxy Sock is 80% merino and 20% nylon, and Fairy Wing Fingering is 80% merino and 20% silk. Now compare the colors of the different yarns and you’ll notice how each base takes the dye a little differently. You’ve become a yarn researcher!

We’ll have the trunk show for two weeks; make a plan to come in early while the selection is good!

Late Bloomer Mittens from making magazine No. 10

We want to bring your attention to these beauties designed by Kristin Ledgett!  Sometimes you need to see and feel and try on a sample of a knitting pattern to really love it.  That’s the case with these mittens.  We have two pairs of these made with different yarns.  The gray pair is made with The Farmer’s Daugther Fibers Recollect and Shibui Silk Cloud held together and the gold pair is made with The Farmer’s Daughter Fibers Soka’pii and Biches & Buches Le Petit Silk & Mohair held together. Once you try these on you won’t want to take them off! Right now the pattern is only available through the magazine.

We’ll be happy to help you find the perfect yarn that will make your heart sing while knitting these!
