Bulky = Fast!
At this time of year, at the end of the holidays, we tend to want to complete a project just to feel a sense of accomplishment. We want it to be something quick and not too complicated. Our brains are tired after the hubbub of celebrating and we want something soothing.
Enter the world of bulky weight yarn! Due to its large diameter it does not lend itself well to cables or lacy designs. Even colorwork would just be too much for this yarn so stockinette or simple textured patterns are what you want. You can count the time it takes you to make something by hours rather than days, weeks, or months!
These yarns call for needle sizes anywhere from US 15 - 17 and the gauge is listed at about 2 stitches per inch!!
Freia Ombre Plush is 85% Merino and 15% Mulberry Silk. This is a new yarn and so far there are only nine projects that have been posted to Ravelry. We anticipate that this yarn will be popular because of the silk content and the ombre colors that Freia is known for.
Mirasol Yarn Ushya is 98% Merino and 2% nylon. This soft, fuzzy yarn has a chainette construction and is super lightweight! Purl Soho’s Bandana Cowl, a free pattern, would be a warm, cozy quick project for Ushya.
Wool and the Gang Crazy Sexy Wool is a single ply 100% wool from Peru. The Pattern Ideas page on Ravelry shows hats, cowls, blankets, and even sweaters. There are 113 pages of projects made with this yarn!
Malabrigo Rasta is a perenially favorite yarn as the 500 pages of Raverly projects show! Our order that we placed in September is finally in the shop. We suggest that if you want some, you’d better get it quickly as we don’t know how long our next order will take to arrive! This yarn is 100% Merino and is a single ply from Uruguay. We have a sample of the Piper Hat on display for you to see how it knits up.
The Rare Creature Big Softy is another yarn from Peru. This is aptly named because it consists of a blend of 95% alpaca and 5% nylon. Big Softy is another fabulous light weight chainette yarn. Like Freia Plush it’s a new yarn that we expect to become quite popular. It’s so squishy you won’t want to put it down!
We would like to say a rousing goodbye to 2020 and what better way to celebrate the arrival of 2021 than with a quick, satisfying project?
Happy knitting!
Jenny
