Chic Cascade Jacket

My Sister Knits has a stunning cardigan on display, the Cascade Jacket designed by Lene Rix! Our sample is made with Biches and Buches Le Lambswool combined with Woolberry Berry Mohair, one strand of each held together throughout. Size 10 needles allow you to see progress quickly!

As I read through more patterns by Scandinavian knitters, I’ve noticed that some terms are a little different, or aren’t commonly used in the US, and it takes a bit more brain power to figure them out. They don’t translate precisely into English! I encourage you not to let this put you off. “There are many paths to common outcomes” as one of my favorite authors says.

One of the things I’ve noticed about this pattern is how well laid out it is. There are tip boxes and instructional boxes throughout.

Biches + Buches le lambswool comes in 50g skeins

There’s an i-cord edge that is knitted as you go which is so helpful at the end of a project! No long bind-offs! There are charts and written directions, you can choose whichever you prefer.

Set yourself up for success with this pattern! Read it through carefully, highlighter in hand, for directions you especially want to watch out for. Lene’s Youtube videos are in Danish so you’ll need to find ones in English for the i-cord cast on. This one, by Very Pink Knits, works for the i-cord cast on - to the right in the pattern. This one, by Purl Soho, works to understand the i-cord cast on - to the left construction.

and it comes in 100g skeins!

Here is one of my favorite German Short Row tutorials. The cable increases are well explained in the boxes in the pattern so you won’t need those videos. Lene uses the term, ‘work the stitches as they appear’ which just means knit the knits, purl the purls, and also do the twisted rib stitches as you come to them!

This is probably not a ‘social knitting’ project until you get used to it or until you’re finished with the cables!

A word about the yarn used in our shop sample…the pattern calls for a few combinations of yarn that generally add up to a bulky weight. Our sample was knit to gauge with one strand of DK and one strand of mohair on size 10 and 10.5 needles. We love the feel and drape of our sample! You can also use any of our lace weight Suri in place of the mohair. Since this cardigan is knit with such large needles, any of our DK yarns would be lovely for this project!

We can’t wait to see more of this elegant design!

My Sister Knits’ Annual Sock Drive

Join us in our sock drive from now until the end of October! We accept new store-bought socks in all sizes. This year our goal is 1,000 pairs of socks as they are the most needed items. Our generous customers have always provided socks for Fort Collins’ homeless population so we’re counting on you to do it again!

Happy knitting,
