National Make a Hat Day is an unofficial holiday that occurs every September 15th.  We don’t know who started it or when it began but it’s a great way to kick off your fall knitting!

It’s becoming a tradition at My Sister Knits to celebrate Make a Hat Day!  Since September 15th is a Sunday this year, we shall have our party on Saturday, September 14th from 10 until 4.

Our latest Brooklyn Tweed trunk show will be at the shop for just a few more days!  One of the best ways for a yarn company to showcase their various yarns is to create a collection of samples and then send these samples to yarn shops.  We get to see and feel the yarns in finished projects.

Francis Cestari is a legend in the United States wool world and he is coming to My Sister Knits!  He’ll be here Tuesday August 27th from 1pm until 4pm. Meeting this impressive and dedicated sheep farmer and hearing his stories will be an event you’ll never forget.

With mornings and evenings getting cooler, our thoughts are beginning to turn to fall knitting.  A new hat is a great way to celebrate the coming change of seasons!

We have a hat class for you in September that gives you a chance to gain colorwork experience and learn how to make the exquisite Latvian Braid!  

Cabling is a technique that creates rich complex looking fabric that is (for the most part) a snap to accomplish.  New knitters are often daunted by cabling and postpone learning how. We'd like to share a few tips that may make this technique more approachable for newer knitters.

Tweed Silk Cloud has just joined the Shibui family of yarn! At My Sister Knits we love the elegance of Shibui yarns and the sumptuous fabric they create. Now we have a new yarn to play with!

Rachel Coopey lives in the UK and designs socks, mittens, and hats but mostly socks. She lives and breathes socks, both designing them and knitting them. She loves them so much she created her own yarn that shows off her designs to the max!

Chiaogoo (pronounced chaw-goo) interchangeable needle sets are featured in today’s blog post.  We have three different sets in the shop: Twist Red Lace, Twist Shorties, and Twist Minis.

This week we’re showcasing Knitter’s Pride interchangeable needle sets which are many and varied!  We have several in the shop for you to check out from extra special sets to a starter set.

A set of interchangeable circular needles is an essential part of your knitting tool kit.!

Circular needles have become the needle of choice for most of our customers.  Some of the reasons are obvious. You can use them to knit back and forth or in the round and you will never lose your ‘other’ needle because it’s attached!  

Fifteen years ago, in June, My Sister Knits opened its doors and became not only a local yarn shop but a sought after destination yarn shop!  We are going to celebrate!

Our favorite yarn for summer knitting is linen!  The idea of knitting with linen tends to scare some people off.  They feel the crispness of linen and fear that it will be hard on their hands or difficult to knit with.  We are here today to encourage you to try this ancient fiber!

Do you ever get so involved in a knitting or crochet project that you forget to take breaks?  Then when you do eventually get up you are stiff and sore? That is not good! We need to take care of our bodies that we love to use as non-stop knitting/crocheting machines.

My Sister Knits is having a Shibui Knits Knit ALong!  We love all things Shibui and many of you bought Shibui Knits yarn at our booth at Interweave Yarn Fest.  So we think it will be fun to knit something together!

As I mentioned in the last blog post about local yarn shops, one of the perks of being a small yarn shop owner is being able to stock yarn that is made in small batches.  

National Local Yarn Shop Day is a day to support and celebrate brick and mortar yarn stores.

There’s nothing quite like a LYS!  Each one has its own character and knitters search them out when traveling!  Some have even become a destination in their own right.
