Pot Pourri

There are three events happening in August and September that we at My Sister Knits want you to be aware of!

First, there is a Short Row Skill Session on Saturday August 31st from 1:30 to 3:30.  For some reason, short rows always seem to be so intimidating! Probably because we don’t use them often.  However, they are an important skill to have in your knitting toolkit. Short rows are a way of adding shaping to a project.  They are used to add curves to a shawl, a heel to a sock, a curve to the hem of a sweater, shape to a sleeve cap, as design elements, and more. There are many ways to create Short Rows and they have names such as Shadow, German, Wrap and Turn, and Japanese. What you need to do is try a few to find out which you prefer.

Don’t let Short Row Intimidation (SRI) keep you from making a project that you’ve fallen in love with! There are plenty of you tube tutorials for late at night and Sundays when the shop is closed but there’s nothing like the personal touch.  Join Kelly’s Short Row Skill Session to learn more about this essential technique! You may sign up online or by calling the shop at 970.407.1461.

Second, we are hosting a KAL (Knit A Long) for the month of August. On Tuesday evenings like-minded knitters will come together from 6 - 7:30 to make fingering weight socks!  Remember that KALs do not offer any teaching, just the fun of knitting something with others. You may choose any pattern but we ask that you use fingering weight yarn purchased at My Sister Knits. Julie will have a list of her favorite sock patterns if you’d like a suggestion!  There is no pressure about finishing other than if you finish by the end of August, you will be entered into a drawing! There is no charge for any of our KALs but please sign up either online or by calling theshop at 970.407.1461 so we will know how many to expect.

Third, we are hosting a CAL (Crochet A Long) for the month of September!  Also on Tuesdays from 6:00 - 7:30, this will be a bit different from the KAL.  For this CAL, everyone will be making the same thing, the Gunnhild Crochet Primrose Throw designed by Arne and Carlos!  The pattern is available on their website. We again ask that you use yarn purchased at the shop. We’ll have a pop-up shop of Shannon Player-Timmons’ Yarn Baby yarn from 5:30 - 6:30 the first night of the CAL, September 3rd, when you’ll have a chance to buy some spectacular yarn and cast on right away if you so desire!

As with the KAL, there is no charge but please sign up so we will know how many to expect.

Along with the Yarn Crawl, the next few months promise to be busy with fun goings-on at My Sister Knits and we invite to join us!
