Exquisite Sheer V Sweater

A grand discovery was made one night around the table at Knit Night!  Knitters were searching on Ravelry and found Jessie Mae Martinson’s Sheer V Sweater design. One thing led to another and now we have a sample in the shop!

Our sample is made with Farmer’s Daughter Fibers Moon Sisters and Emma’s Yarn Marvelous Mohair

This sweater is totally adorable! There is a sheer V neck made with one strand of mohair that sets it apart from any other sweater we’ve seen. The rest of the sweater is knit with mohair and fingering weight yarn held together. There are also long wide bell sleeves to offset the cropped length of the sweater.

As the pattern says, this sweater is ethereal! Jessie, of JESSIE MAED DESIGNS,  is a new designer to us and we are so pleased to have discovered her! We urge you to visit the Ravelry pattern page, linked above, to see the many projects.

Knitting this sweater is like taking a class, the pattern is so well written!  There are several paragraphs about mohair choice; the content of the mohair you choose will affect the sheerness of the V.

There are precise directions on how to create the tubular 1x1 rib cast on. You’re going to want to keep these handy because we’re sure you’ll use them whenever this type of cast on is suggested. However, if you’d rather not use it, there are also directions for that!

Would you like to use yarns with a bit of contrast? On the left are Woolberry and Emilia & Philomene, in the middle are Emilia & Philomene paired with Biches + Buches, and on the right are Woolberry and Emilia & Philomene.

Jessie tells us how to make any modifications that we can think of:

  • Would you like a shallower or deeper V?

  • How about no V or a V in back?

  • Sleeveless?

  • Waist shaping or no?

  • How about how much extra yarn per inch if you’d like to make it longer?

All of this is covered with exact directions. You can make the exact size you want because the size range will fit a 24 to 62 inch bust, in sizes XXS to 5X.

Sheer V Sweater is knit from the bottom up, in the round until you reach the start of the V. There you separate for the back and front. The shoulders are joined with a 3 Needle Bind Off.

There is a chart for the intarsia V section that gives stitch counts for each row. Jessie also provides tips and tricks for intarsia.

Or would you rather have colors that are matching? On the left are Biches + Buches and Hue Loco, in the center are Weld and Hue Loco, and the ones on the right are both Emilia & Philomene.

The neck is bound off with an Invisible Ribbed Bind Off which is a Kitchener Bind Off.  It sounds stunning and, once again, is explained so well!

We urge you to take a good look at this sweater; it’s definitely a stand-out piece that’s a treasure!

Happy knitting,

Jenny
