Earl Grey Fiber Co, 'Make it So'
My Sister Knits has a new addition to our thoughtfully selected yarns! This yarn has all of us oohing and aahing over it. We often stop when we’re passing it and let our eyes skim the remarkable colorways, trying to decide our favorite.
What is this yarn of which I speak? Earl Grey Fiber Company’s Gunpowder and Darjeeling Sock. Heather, who lives near Seattle in the Pacific Northwest, creates the most luscious colors! The browns are like nothing we’ve ever seen. The lighter colors are reminiscent of a Monet painting. These are gorgeous, gentle colorways that make you want to cast on immediately, before you even buy it! You’ll forget about whatever it was that brought you into the shop and focus solely on the Earl Grey. No exaggeration!
Heather named her yarn company after Jean Luc Picard’s favorite tea, Earl Grey. This tea’s distinctive flavor is oil of bergamot. Bergamot is a citrus fruit the size of an orange with a yellow or green color similar to a lime and is native to southern Italy. Now you know!
Earl Grey’s fingering weight Gunpowder base is 70% superwash Merino, 20% Yak, and 10% Nylon for strength. Gunpowder comes only in tonal colorways that complement the variegated and speckled yarns.
Darjeeling Sock is categorized as a light fingering and is created with a blend of 75% superwash Merino and 25% Nylon.
These yarns are currently on display on the ‘New’ wall to the left as you walk into the shop. Never fear if there’s a crowd, you’ll get your turn!

KNITTING CONVERSATIONS
We’re starting a new program in August called Knitting Conversations. These events will be monthly one-hour chats based around one topic presented by Jenny (me, there are two Jennys who teach). The first four topics are August: gauge; September: the differences between superwash and non-superwash yarns; October: lace basics, and in November: fiber origins, ie “where does mohair come from?”. These are intended to be informative talks, no homework or materials needed.
Sign-ups for these will be the same as for a class. Watch for the first one to be on the website with a date and time by next week!
We urge you to come in and see the Earl Grey Fiber Co yarns! You’ll be so glad you did!
Happy Knitting,
Jenny
