Countdown to Circus Tonic Visit!

Do you have your calendars marked?  In just under two weeks My Sister Knits hosts Hannah Ginn of Circus Tonic Handmade! I’d like to remind everyone that this is such a special event because Hannah lives in Adelaide, South Australia! She will be in the US for a visit that just happens to be close enough to visit us!

Hannah will be here Tuesday evening, December 12th, and all day Wednesday, December 13th. You’ll have several opportunities to meet her: Tuesday Knit Night, Wednesday morning at Little Bird Bakeshop, Wednesday afternoon at My Sister Knits, and dinner at The Regional at 6pm that night. We still have a few spots open for dinner so call the shop at 970.407.1461 to make your reservation soon! We’d love to have you join us! See this blog post for all of the details.

My Sister Knits has her Donegal tweed mini skein sets, sock sets, demi skein bundles of four colors, full skeins, the works! There’s something for everyone!

Lollygag Cowl

Our latest sample is the Lollygag Cowl, designed by Woolen Cottage. This can be a one-color cowl or you might want to use one of our Circus Tonic bundles! Lollygag uses one skein or the equivalent yardage of mini skeins.

This is a simple garter stitch cowl with four eyelet rows to make things interesting. The stitch abbreviations are clearly explained and there are helpful notes at the beginning of the pattern.

demi skein set of four half skeins

This is a perfect beginning lace project and a relaxing one for knitters with a bit of experience with making yarn overs (yo) and knitting two stitches together (k2tog). This video shows how to work the double yarn overs as called for in this design.

If you want to learn a new bind off, the pattern suggests the Icelandic bind off because of its unique look and its stretchiness. I’m eager to use this one!

Lollygag is worked flat and seamed. Here is a video on working the mattress stitch with garter stitch fabric. Since there aren’t many rows to seam, this cowl is great for a first seaming experience! The mattress stitch is fun but can be overwhelming to begin with, as I well remember! You’ll feel so clever when you pull the yarn tight on your mattress stitch, it’s like magic the way the stitches come together!

sock sets

When you buy any Circus Tonic yarn from now until December 12th, you’ll be entered into a drawing to win the gift basket Hannah has put together. She’s bringing us goodies from Australia! The winning ticket will be drawn on Wednesday afternoon when Hannah is at My Sister Knits.

We hope that you can take advantage of this opportunity to meet Hannah!

Happy knitting,
