I’ve Finished, Now What?

What do you do when you finish a project? Do you dive right into another one? Or is it like reading a book or watching a movie; when you finish it, you might want to think about it for a while before you start another one. I always feel a bit at loose ends when I’m done with a project, before I start another.

I just finished a cabled wrap that was rather large, required concentration, and was on a deadline. Over this last weekend I worked on it day and night to get it done. Once I finished it, and sent it off to its recipient on Monday, I just wanted to relish its completion before I start another project. This is when I need what I call a ‘palate cleanser’ project.

Lokke mini scarf, designed by Woolfolk Design Team, knit with Woolfolk Flette

You know how when you go out for a super fancy meal you often get a tiny scoop of sorbet in between courses to cleanse your palate? I’m trying to remember when that last happened, now that I think about it! Anyway, that sorbet resets your taste buds so you can enjoy your next course.

A ‘palate cleanser’ knitting project, for me, is something very simple and small that requires only the tiniest amount of concentration. It’s a plus if it uses luxurious yarn! I’ll get back to a more complicated project soon. Right now my palate cleanser is the classic Inclination cowl, designed by Scot Rohr, and I’m using Clinton Hill Cashmere that I’ve been saving for something special. What a delight it is to work on!

Les Garcons British DK could definitely be a palate cleanser yarn!

A cowl or a small scarf are good palate cleansers. They get you ready to enjoy your next, more complicated venture! I know that mine will be a colorwork hat but I’m not ready for it quite yet.

We have two samples we’d suggest. There are many more on display in the shop for you to choose from but these caught my eye today. The VAL cowl and the mini Lokke scarf. Both are knit with DK weight yarn. Choose a special yarn, whether it’s a color that calls to you or the fiber in the yarn, and you’ll be off and knitting!

We have some project bags that would be just the thing for your palate cleanser project!

This is one of several prints that we have.

Splash Fabric bags are reminiscent of old-fashioned oil cloth. They are made of laminated cotton and will keep your projects safe and dry inside them!

We have more prints to choose from!

Tried and true Baggu bags are out in new prints! Who remembers Snoopy’s brother Spike who lives in the desert? He’s on one! We have the 3 bag sets and the larger totes. The 3D Zip Sets are excellent for putting your project in a larger purse or tote because they conform to the size of your yarn so easily! When you’re not using them for a project, they can double as packing cubes! These bags can be hand or machine washed and line dried.
