My Sister Knits has two new sweaters from local designer Briana Arlene! One of them is Quilt Dreams Pullover, published in August. The other one is the Paintbrush Pullover that coordinates with the Paintbrush Tank. The pattern will be out soon. In the meantime, you can come in, look at it closely, choose your yarn for it, and get impatient for the pattern to be published!

Our Quilt Dreams Pullover sample was knit by Briana which makes it even more special. This worsted weight sweater has completely different looks depending on the colors you choose. Take a look at the projects on Ravelry to see if you’d prefer a light or dark Main Color. Briana uses Spincycle Dream State for her contrast color but you can also use another solid or a variegated yarn. An off-white background with some sort of dark red just popped into my mind as a possible combination!

We encourage you to read through the pattern paying attention to the Special Notes and Pro Tips before you start. Reading Briana’s patterns is almost like having a conversation with her! She explains everything so well.

Quilt Dreams uses a German Twisted Cast On and right and left lifted increases. There are two videos for the lifted increases that I like and each one gives you valuable information so look at both of them! One is by Roxanne Richardson and the other is by Suzanne Bryan. There are so many pages to this pattern because Briana gives us colorwork charts and yoke shaping tables for each size. You’ll only need to print out the ones for your size. The pattern has links to tutorials for the German short rows, tubular bind off in the round, duplicate stitch, and small circumference knitting with magic loop in the round. The tubular bind off is optional but it’s worth the time it takes to do it! The duplicate stitch is worked at the neckline to provide a more professional finished look but it is also optional.

I love that Briana’s charts are large enough to be easy to read and follow! That isn’t always the case.

Take a close look at the neckline or hem of the Paintbrush Pullover in the photo above. Notice the detail in the ribbing! I think I might do that in the next edges that I have to do in a sweater because it adds an interesting design characteristic to ribbing. Our sample is knit with two strands of Hue Loco Wild Sock. However, if you’d rather use one strand, you’ll want a DK weight. We’ll have to wait until the pattern comes out to see what weight Briana used. We have lots of DK to choose from!
