A Heartfelt Good-bye

Dear Friends,

I feel that all of our readers are my friends whether I’ve met you or not. It is with mixed emotions that I’m announcing my retirement from My Sister Knits. My last blog post/newsletter will come out on Saturday, October 3rd. I will host Knitting Day on Friday, September 25th from 10 - 2. After that, you will be welcome to come to the shop and knit on the fourth Friday of each month but it might not be hosted.

I’ve been writing the blog for about 13 years and My Sister Knits is a big part of my life and will continue to be, albeit in a different way. I’ll still frequent the shop but as a regular, faithful customer!

I grew into a knitter at My Sister Knits and I’ve made lifelong friends. I took a Learn to Knit class in 2011 to remind me how to knit and I haven’t stopped learning since. I took every class I could from My Sister Knits, Fancy Tiger in Denver, and at the Interweave yarn festivals that were held at the Embassy Suites in Loveland. When my knitting guru and dear friend Kate, who wrote the blog before me, moved to Vermont, I asked Julie if maybe I might take over the blog. I thought it was something I might be able to do and it interested me.

I want to attempt to let you know how much My Sister Knits has meant to me. There’s a lot of history over the past years; so many events at the shop, retreats, travels with Julie and Diana, and generally fun times. My Sister Knits strives to be a supportive community and, to me, they have been. 

Writing the blog has been pure fun! I’ve learned so much along the way about everything to do with knitting; in particular, the animals and plants that give us yarn. I’ve become acquainted with people in various parts of the fiber industry through the shop and the classes I’ve taken. Without My Sister Knits I wouldn’t be the knitter I am today and I’m still growing and learning. 

I will forever be thankful to Julie for her friendship and for giving me this opportunity. My wish for all of you is that you continue your knitting journey, learning about this wonderful age-old craft, or is it an art? Both, I think.

I’ve sprinkled some photos in this post of my favorite yarns. I wandered through the shop collecting them and realized that I love yarns with either a story behind them or a personal connection. Amble represents Kelbourne Woolens and I’ve learned so much from the owners Kate and Courtney. I love the stories behind Wooldreamers and Rosa Pomar yarns. Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok is a workhorse that I go to for grandchild knitting. Woolfolk Far and Tynd are soft and light as down and they were the first yarns I took a deep dive into and learned so much about. Whenever I work with Circus Tonic I remember when Hannah visited us. And I can’t forget my new favorite, Eriu! I love their story!

So, it is with bittersweet feelings that this chapter of my life comes to a close. Thank you for reading the blog all these years. Remember, there are still two more blog posts to come!
