Sought-after Spincycle!
My Sister Knits now has ……. wait for it …… a new shipment of Spincycle! And more on the way! We ordered every colorway of sport weight Dyed in the Wool and as many as we could of worsted weight Dream State.
Dream State colorways from left to right: Hidden Place, Midsommar, Wild Horses
If you’ve been in the shop lately, you likely noticed that things were not in their ‘normal’ places. You will now find all of the Spincycle Dyed in the Wool and Dream State in a place of honor; hanging on the back wall of the main floor. No more digging through the colors in a cubby to make your selection!
Spincycle Yarns started in Bellingham, WA with two owners, Kate Burge-Tibi and Rachel Price. That was 2004. Now they’ve grown to 20 employees and are about to move into their third building! They call their kettle dye process, where they get their unique slow color changes, Spincycle magic!

Spincycle is often used in colorwork as a contrast color yarn. Remember that the term ‘colorwork’ refers to anything with more than one color! It can be stripes, colorblock patterns, intarsia, entrelac, mosaic, or stranded colorwork.
One way to find patterns using Spincycle is to go on Ravelry and type ‘spincycle yarn’ into the pattern box. There are 20 pages of hats, sweaters, cowls, shawls, scarves, and more! If you’d like to find out which patterns have the most projects, choose ‘most projects’ in the ‘Sort by’ drop down menu.

If you’d like to find patterns using a specific yarn, say, Dyed in the Wool, choose ‘yarns’ from Ravelry’s home page and type the name into the Search Yarns box. Click on the yarn that comes up and you’ll be on their page! You can tell how popular this yarn is by looking at the Projects tab and noticing that there are over 28,000 projects! Clicking on Pattern Ideas will also show you what people are making.
When Spincycle first came out, some crafters thought that it was trendy, a fad that would wear itself out. Since it’s been going strong for 20 years, starting with farmers’ markets and quickly growing, we’d surmise it’s here to stay!

A caution: Spincycle has very strict, precise ordering protocols. If you need some that we don’t have, it’s not just a matter of placing a quick order like it is with some of our yarns. It’s important to keep that in mind when considering a purchase!
We extend a most cordial invitation to come in and have fun imagining your next project with a Spincycle yarn! We’re also happy to help you find a pattern you love!
Happy knitting,
