Local Yarn Store Day April 26th!

My Sister Knits will celebrate Local Yarn Store Day on Saturday, April 26th!  The last Saturday in April is set aside to celebrate local yarn stores and what they bring to the community. This marks the seventh year of this special day, created by TNNA (The National Needlearts Assoc.).

We are going all out to show appreciation to our customers because this is a two-way street. You appreciate us, we appreciate you!

We’ll kick off our day with a Cast On party for the Sisterhood Cowl, designed by local designer Briana Arlene! From 9 - 9:30 Briana will help you choose colors. Then from 9:30 - 10:30 she’ll demonstrate how to do the iCord tab cast on and the mosaic colorwork

This is a free event but we’d like you to pre-register for it so we’ll know how many are coming. You can do that here or by calling the shop at 970.407.1461. We also ask that you use yarn purchased from My Sister Knits. You can buy the pattern at the shop or get it from Ravelry.

This pretty cowl pattern uses two yarns, one Farmer’s Daughter Recollect for the main color and one Spincycle Dyed in the Wool for the contrast color.  We suggest you first choose your Spincycle and then head upstairs to choose your main color. Or, of course, you could use any two sport weight yarns.

All day long we’ll have several other special events:

  • a sidewalk sale with up to 60% off select items

  •  a pop-up shop featuring individual cards and card sets illustrated by local artist Frankie Rowland. Frankie trained with the New York Botanical Gardens to become a Certified Botanical Artist. She’s a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists and has a Bachelor of Fine Arts. We are honored to showcase her work!

  • Your tastebuds will be tempted by our treats from a locally-owned eatery

  • a free skein of Make It Tweed (certain colorways) with purchase, while supplies last

Our newest yarn, HipKnit from Norway, will make its appearance! We have Hip Wool, an aran weight 100% wool yarn and we also have Fluff, a super bulky blend of 78% mohair, 13% wool, and 9% nylon. Julie is so excited to carry these yarns and has been eagerly awaiting their arrival!

And just because so many of you have asked for it, here is a newborn baby hat pattern! Julie and Diana have made this darling little hat innumerable times over the years. Our current samples are made with CaMaRose Snefnug, however, it can be made in any weight.

Using Snefnug, cast on 56 stitches with a size 7 needle. Join to knit in the round. Knit for 6”. Then K2tog until there are 4 stitches left. Make a 4-stitch iCord about 3” long and tie a knot. Ta Da! You have the dearest little baby hat. You can get two hats from one skein of Snefnug.

If you’d like to use a fingering weight yarn, cast on 108 stitches with a size 1 or 1.5 needle and work the same pattern!

We hope to see you on April 26th!

Happy knitting,
