A New Sample and Two New Classes!
At My Sister Knits, some of us have been fortunate to see a scarf in progress, gradually getting larger, and finally finished. We love it! Why? Because it’s pretty and so, so soft and cozy against your neck!
Our sample is knit with the Knitting for Olive colorways Dusty Moose and Snowflake.
This is the Round Top Bandana. It looks more like an elongated skinny triangle to us but a bandana is something worn tied around your neck, so we guess the name fits!
Our sample is made with one skein of Knitting for Olive Merino and one skein of Soft Silk Mohair held together. The combination of these two yarns make a most luxurious scarf for a bargain basement price! If you’ve never held two yarns together, it’s easy! You just treat them as one and we can show you how if that would help you out.
You could use a soft, delicate color combination!
We have a few tips for knitting this scrumptious scarf/bandana:
we suggest a size large, that’s what ours is
mark your rows as you knit them on your pattern to keep your place; highlighter tape will help with this
block it aggressively to get the full beauty of the Dip stitch and length
You could use a vibrant, bold color combination!
Round Top is made with a slip stitch pattern and only one color is used on each row. The pattern is written row by row, in black for color A and red for color B. This is one instance where a color printer will save your eyes and make reading the pattern so much easier. We can print this at the shop for you! If you’d rather print it on your own, you could use a highlighter to differentiate between color A and color B.
You start by casting on 6 stitches, increasing every 8 rows with a kfb (knit into the front and the back) until you have 35 stitches for the large size. Then you decrease every 8 rows with a P2tog (purl two together) until you get back down to 6 stitches and then you bind off. It might take a little bit of getting used to the ‘dip’ stitch every 4th row but we’re confident you’ll get it after 2 or 3 tries! Again, if you need any help with it, come into the shop and we’ll be happy to show you!
Here’s a CSU color combination!
This pattern is well written and easy to follow! Just think of the fun color combinations you could put together! Neutrals, brights, subtle pastels, school colors and the list goes on.
We want to see the colors you choose!
Two New Classes have been added to our May calendar!
We have a crochet teacher! Learn to Crochet will be Fridays May 9th and 23rd from 10 until noon. You’ll learn the basics such as how to hold your hook and the most common stitches, while you make a washcloth!
We also have a Learn to Knit 2 class, a follow-on class to Learn to Knit where you’ll get to make your choice of a cowl or a hat! Our Learn to Knit class isn’t a prerequisite but you do need to know how to cast on, knit, and purl. You’ll learn how to join and knit in the round, read a pattern, and make simple increases and decreases.
Be sure to come in and join the fun on Saturday, April 26th for Local Yarn Shop Day!
Happy knitting,
