An Explosion of Pink

Pink! The world has gone pink! At least, the Barbie movie world has gone pink. Let’s join in the fun and jump on the pink bandwagon! Why not? Pink is joyful, exuberant, and playful. What’s not to love?

I’ve fallen in love with the idea of making something pink, how about you? What pink do I want, though? There are so many! In-your-face neon pink? Soft and subtle pink? Something in between? I rarely wear pink but in the spirit of fun, I think I’ll make something bold but not quite neon.

What to make? Ahhh, that’s the question. Will pink still be so popular come October when a pink handknit will be weather-friendly? I certainly hope so! Think of all the knitters/crocheters starting a pink project now…we’ll see them everywhere when the weather turns!

The main project categories for our purpose are socks, hats, cowls, shawls, and sweaters. I’m thinking that a bright pink shawl knit at a loose gauge with nothing lighter than worsted weight yarn might be just the thing! I want a loose gauge so it’s drapey and worsted weight so it will take less time to knit. If I held two fingering weights together, with one of them being mohair or brushed alpaca, that would be luscious! My Sister Knits has yarn possibilities galore!

Ravelry has 97 pages of worsted weight shawls. If you choose Ravelry downloads in the Availabiity category, there are 63 pages. If you want to narrow that down to triangular shapes in the Attributes category, that narrows it down further to 24 pages. Now the serious choosing can begin!

Yarn Crawl News!

The first 100 people who visit My Sister Knits will get a special gift, so make us your first stop on Saturday, July 29th! Along with that, you’ll get to sample Ummber’s ice cream and peruse our three trunk shows! Poppy & Spruce yarns, woodworker Steve Valdes, and jewelry maker Karen Canino will have their creations on display all day.

My Sister Knits yarn crawl colorway

Each participating yarn shop has their own color of yarn dyed by Little Squirrel Yarn in Loveland, CO. Collect them all and you’ll have seven coordinating skeins!

Have you planned your route yet? Mine has been planned for a while and I’m headed out Saturday morning to Longmont Yarn Shoppe, then to The Loopy Ewe, ending up at My Sister Knits. I like being able to put my plan in motion with ease!

We are excited for the Hot August Knits yarn crawl to begin! It’s a perfect time to get your pink yarn!

Happy knitting,
