Camellia Fiber Co. Yak DK
My Sister Knits has a new yarn for you! We’ve had our eye on this yarn company for a couple of years and now we have some of their extra-special Yak DK. The Camellia Fiber Company, as you might guess, is located in the south, Tennessee to be exact. The Camellia flower symbolizes different things in different countries but here in the US it symbolizes beauty. Their yarn is indeed beautiful and aptly named!

Camellia Fiber Co. is a small, woman-owned company. Silbia Ro, owner and creative director, has her hands on every part of the process, including hand dyeing the yarn in the gorgeous saturated colors! The Yak DK has a brown base, so the colors look deep and muted. They’re perfectly suited to fall and winter projects!
colors from left to right: Coffee, Oolong, and Dark Chocolate
Yak DK is a blend of 65% superwash Merino, 20% Silk, and 15% Yak. The Silk gives it shine and strength and the Yak gives it warmth, more than wool, and softness comparable to cashmere. This is indeed a luxurious yarn!
We have it on good authority that ribbing looks sharp and stockinette stitch allows this sumptuous yarn to be the focus of the project. We’ll have samples in the shop soon! You don’t have to stick to stockinette though, cables and lace are equally pretty in this yarn!
Cityscape Cowl © Tori Yu
The Cityscape Cowl, designed by Tori Yu for this yarn, is a fall accessory that shows off the beautiful drape of Yak DK. It’s an asymmetrical cowl that is worked flat and then seamed. The i-cord edging gives it a good looking professional finish.
Aura Vest © chrizknits
Another idea for this yarn is Irene Lin’s Aura Vest. Comments on the Ravelry Project Pages indicate that the lace is easy to memorize and that the pattern is well written. This is a rather delicate cropped vest with plenty of positive ease. Of course, if you’d rather it was longer, you just have to repeat the lace pattern to the length you prefer! I’m thinking it would be a great wardrobe staple for the cooler months!
Other ideas for this magnificent yarn are hats and small scarves that would feel so good around your neck! You’re going to want to see all the colors and feel this yarn before you decide on fall projects so come on in!
Happy knitting,
