Woolfolk Has a New Soft-as Down Yarn!

The fun thing about Julie going to Fiber Festivals is that she finds things that she brings back to My Sister Knits! When she stopped by the Woolfolk booth at Flock recently, she was able to see and feel their newest yarn, Brise, in person! She knew immediately that we had to add it to our collection of Woolfolk yarns!

This yarn is as soft and ethereal as the other Woolfolk yarns. I always like to describe them as being as light as dandelion fluff. When I hold a skein it seems as if it will float away if I’m not careful. This yarn is so soft and squishy!

Brise (pronounced “breeze”) is exactly what we need at this time of year. It’s a blend of 68% Ovis 21 Ultimate Merino and 32% Pima Cotton. It’s the softest, drapiest cotton blend yarn we’ve ever felt. It comes in 50 gram skeins of 164 yards and is a DK weight yarn. Like Woolfolk Far, it’s a chainette construction which helps to make it so light and airy. The Pima Cotton adds some breathability.

Ovis 21 is a learning and collaborative network of sheep producers in Patagonia who care for and regenerate the environment while they care for their sheep. It was created in 2003 and has grown in scope and education ever since. The Ovis 21 Merino sheep fleece has a micron count of 17.5, close to that of cashmere. That’s why Woolfolk yarn is so soft!

Woolfolk’s patterns designed with Brise are ideal for transitioning into fall and would be a good weight for inside in the winter, not too warm but yet not too cold. Just right, as Goldilocks would say!

The cardigan in the above photo is Crippen, designed by Tayler Harris.

Any DK weight pattern with some drape will work beautifully with Brise; Petite Knit, Andrea Mowry, Ozetta:Hailey Smedley, and Isabelle Kraemer are just a few of the designers who have sweater/top patterns that would be lovely. And any accessory hat, shawl, cowl, etc. would be so soft and luscious to wear.

I can imagine that Brise will be a dream to knit with! It’s brand new to the shop and we invite you in to squish it.

Reminder:

This Saturday is the annual Tour de Fat bike parade that goes down Mountain Ave until about noon. Allow extra time to get to the shop as roads will be blocked off. The best way to come is from Laporte Ave, just north of My Sister Knits.  Anyone is welcome to bring a chair and watch from the front yard!

Happy knitting,
