A New Sample with a Special Yarn!

My Sister Knits has a new sample on display knit with an often overlooked yarn for you! Decisions, decisions, do I tell you about the yarn first or the sample? I’ll go with the yarn which is from Wooldreamers.

Dehesa de Barrera Merino sheep ©Wooldreamers

Dehesa de Barrera is Wooldreamers first yarn; it’s where it all started for this remarkable company. The Dehesa de Barrera heritage sheep are full Merino sheep that can trace their lineage back 200 years. Remember that Spain is where Merino originated! They graze in the beautiful Sierra de San Pedro mountain range in a remote area of mountains, forests, and lakes. This is a woolen spun yarn, so you know it will be light and airy and warm! Just think, you can knit with yarn made from direct descendants of the original Merinos!

Our sample is the triangular Crawford scarf, designed by Knox Mountain Knitting Co. According to the person who knit our sample (my nephew), this scarf style is trending right now and not just in the knitting community. He says they’re very fashionable!

One of the fun things about knitting a two color project is that you can decide if you want your color contrast to be subtle or more accentuated. This is one of the things I love about knitting, you can make it the way you want it! One way to tell if your colors will result in the contrast you desire is to take a picture of them. Then go into the filters in your photo app and scroll through them to find the black and white ones. This will show you the amount of contrast! You can visit the project page on Ravelry to see the color combinations others have chosen.

The colorwork in this scarf is a great introduction to both stripes and mosaic, which is created by simply slipping stitches. Crawford is knitted from end to end, increasing until you get to the mosaic center and then decreasing. You have a choice of reading from the written directions or reading from a chart.

To make chart reading easier, I like to color in the symbols with different colors and place highlighter tape on the row above the row I’m knitting. You may find a different way to make reading a chart easier!

We invite you into the shop to try on our sample, decide if you want high or low contrasting yarn, and choose your colors!

Happy knitting,
