When I was in My Sister Knits yesterday, deciding what to write about this week, it was raining. Today it’s been thundering, raining, and hailing down in torrents. I want something cozy to knit while sipping a hot cup of tea, listening to relaxing music, and burning a candle. The weather won’t stay like this for long but yesterday I couldn’t resist wandering around My Sister Knits looking for cozy projects.

There are, of course, a multitude of cozy samples! Four of them caught my eye. I wonder how many you might find on the next bad weather day!

The Kelsey Sweater - P278 is a new sample. I now want to make two, one for each grandson, for their Christms pictures next year! So often a sample that you can see and feel is more appealing than the photo in the pattern. That is the case with this sweater! Of course, the yarn helps also; ours is made with Les Garcons British DK

We have a darling sweater for a little girl, with scallops at the hem and bows around the sleeve cuffs! It’s the Crossandra Sweater Mini, made with CaMaRose Snefnug which is so very soft and cozy! These two sweaters are a super example of how different yarns knit up. The Kelsey Sweater is sturdy and will hold its shape while Crossandra will float down and drape around the wearer.

The Fat Fur Light Hat hugs your head closely and is made with two strands of CaMaRose Midnatssol held together. Midnatssol is a lace weight soft and fuzzy yarn. It’s a blend of 54% baby alpaca, 36% lyocell, and 10% Merino wool. It is not mohair and has a soft, non-itchy, feel up against your skin. Lyocell is the fine thread that holds the other two fibers together. You could start your holiday gift knitting with this hat!

The last sample that caught my eye and my heart is the Variations Cowl No. 1. I must admit that the colors used are not my favorites so it didn’t appeal to me at first. Then I tried it on! Oh my, now I simply cannot wait to get this on my needles! Note to self: one needs to remember to look past the colors in the sample and/or the yarn used because those both can be changed! This cowl is knit with Spincycle sport weight Dyed in the Wool and, the yarn that will make you want this even though it will be summer soon, Les Garcons Fluff! Fluff is a heavenly blend of 55% baby alpaca, 18% Merino wool, 17% silk, and 10% yak.

This cowl pattern calls for five colors but you could easily make it with two, one main color and one contrast color, so don’t let that put you off! I may choose just one color of Fluff for the contrast color and one color of Spincycle for the main color. Fluff has 219 yards per skein and the pattern calls for 221 yards of the contrast color. I’ll cross my fingers and hope that those 2 missing yards won’t be needed. I will do a gauge swatch, though, to be sure I won’t need more yarn than called for.

Spincycle has 200 yards per skein; the pattern calls for 223 yards for the main color so I’ll need two skeins and a plan for the extra yarn! Any sport weight yarns will work for this cowl but using Fluff will make it extra light and cozy!

If you also want something cozy to have on hand for the rainy days yet to come this spring, we invite you into the shop and browse to your heart’s content! We’re always happy to help with ideas!
