Socktober Sock Drive!

My Sister Knits is participating in the international month-long sock drive effort that is Socktober. Last year we collected 300 pairs of new, store-bought socks; we want to exceed that amount this year!

Socktober began in 2011 with one person, Brad Montague. Brad learned that socks are the items least donated to homeless shelters and are desperately needed. He began to film himself handing out socks and wishing people “Happy Socktober!”. These videos were posted on social media, word got around, and since then Socktober has expanded to all seven continents!

A small act of love, such as donating a pair of socks, can make a big difference in the lives of our homeless neighbors.

During October we will take donations of new, store-bought socks. Please think of this easy way to help those in need as you’re shopping! Bring them into My Sister Knits where we’ll have a collection spot. We know our customers are generous and will contribute eagerly!

Take a class!

We have a variety of upcoming classes that will expand your knitting and crocheting skills! In addition to our monthly Basic Knitting and Learn to Fix Mistakes classes, we have curated a selection that’s sure to please!

Ruki socks will teach you how to read Japanese patterns and charts! Some sock construction knowledge is helpful but not absolutely necessary. These socks can be knit cuff down or toe up!

For those of you wanting to try your hand at brioche, Basic Brioche will walk you through the technique and by the end of the class you’ll have a beautiful brioche cowl!

Adventurous beginner crocheters who already know how to chain and make single and double crochet stitches can take their skills further with the Boho Crochet Granny Edgings class!

Also for crocheters is the Crochet Granny Square Mitts class. Again, some basic knowledge of crochet is required.

If you’ve been wanting to learn how to make socks using Magic Loop, we have a class for you! These socks are an easy-to-wear rib and are knit cuff down.

Have you been eyeing the lovely mini skeins in the shop and wondering what to do with them? Make the Watercolor Hat! This class covers the basics of stranded colorwork and uses 4 DK weight mini skeins.

Classes are a terrific way to learn new skills and meet like-minded people, which one will you take this fall?

Happy knitting,
