Make a Hat Day!
My Sister Knits’ special event days are back and we’re starting with Make a Hat Day! Mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 8th! Hat season is coming and how pleasurable it will be to usher it in with a new one!
These are days devoted to one type of project for an entire day! We had them in the ‘Before Times’ and are eagerly anticipating starting them up again. We’ve planned Make a Hat Day, Make a Gift Day, and Work on a WIP(Work In Progress) Day over the next few months.
Our special event days are so much fun! Leave your responsibilities at home and come to the shop for as long as you can. Give yourself the gift of spending time with a community of like-minded people in fun conversation or just quietly working on the theme of the day. This is a wonderful way to make progress on your project while meeting new people!
Our special event days start with coffee or tea and some light breakfast treats. For lunch, we’ve found it’s easiest if everyone brings their own. We end the day with a special toast to our accomplishments and go home happy!
You can either come with your hat project in hand or you can have some fun picking everything out that day. I have a few hats that have been put on hold for one reason or another and I’m going to choose one or two to work on that day!
We ask that you stick to the theme of the day since that is part of the fun! There’s no need to sign up and there is no fee for these enjoyable days spent knitting in a companionable group. I will host these and will be upstairs at the shop from 10 until 5.
Modern Warmer Update
A few more notes to add to last week’s post on this cozy accessory:
When doing the 3 Needle Bind Off, put the right sides of the work facing each other in order for the seam to be on the inside of your work.
Here is what I found for the neckline:
Extra needles of the size you’re working with make this so much easier because then you can knit the stitches directly from the needles rather than picking them up. Leave the back on the needle when you’re finished. Use another needle to work the front. When it is time to place the 15 or 17 center stitches on a holder, put them on a 16” needle instead of a holder. Pick up and knit every other neck edge stitch to get the correct number of stitches. Knit all of the stitches waiting on the needle and repeat for the other neck edge and the back.
Binding off: I suggest using this bind off as a stretchy one is in order!
I hope many of you can join us for Make a Hat Day, even if only for a little while!
Happy Knitting!
Jenny
