Announcing Technique Tuesdays!
My Sister Knits is overflowing with new programs for you! In addition to monthly Knitting Conversations and Special Event Days, we are introducing weekly Technique Tuesdays starting in October!
These are one-hour presentations, from 5 until 6, of useful techniques that will have a certain theme each month. October’s theme is socks!
You’ll want to sign up for these in advance either online or in the shop. At the moment, only the first one is available online. However, you can call the shop at 970.407.1461 to sign up for any of the techniques offered in October.
We start with Anna Makila’s Cochineal Sock colorwork technique on Tuesday, October 5th from 5 until 6. This is a free pattern with a geometric colorwork pattern near the toe and the cuff. The technique demonstration will focus on color dominance, yarn tensioning, and how to hold your yarns for colorwork.
The following three Technique Tuesdays will focus on different types of heels.
October 12th will be how to work a traditional heel flap. There are a plethora of ways to knit a heel flap and this presentation will show you a basic one.
October 19th is the German Short Row heel which uses, you guessed it, German Short Rows! This is a super way to work short rows no matter what you’re making and very useful to know. GSR heels are also known as the Boomerang or Kylie heel. If you’re in Germany, the word for it is Bumerangferse.
Lastly, on October 26th, you’ll learn about the Eye of the Partridge heel. This is a pretty stitch that results in a diamond pattern and a durable, cushioned heel.
Do you know there’s a type of heel called Fish Lips Kiss? That evokes a strange mental image!
We hope you find a technique to learn! If you’re not a sock knitter, never fear, wait to find out what is coming in November’s line-up!
Happy Knitting,
