Moonstruck Wrap

Moonstruck Wrap is Julie’s latest find and the shop’s latest passion! Designed by Heidi May of The Velvet Acorn, this shawl is My Sister Knits’ newest must-knit project.

We are so lucky that Julie, often in the midnight hours, discovers these patterns for our knitting pleasure!

Moonstruck Wrap is made with worsted weight yarn and uses two colors. The contrast color creates a stunning texture using only slipped stitches. There are also a few short rows but those are easily performed with these helpful videos. One video is how to work them and another video is how to substitute German Short Rows for the more commonly called for Wrap and Turn. These videos are excellent tutorials on how to work short rows, no experience needed!

A combination of grays from Green Mountain Spinnery, Biches & Buches, Clinton Hill Cashmere, and Hudson + West Co.

Heidi tells us in the pattern directions that we can easily and successfully substitute German Short Rows.  We like them because they eliminate the small hole that can appear with the Wrap and Turn method and they are so easy! Just follow the videos above! We’ll help if you need us.

The shawl in the pattern photos is made with a combination of dark and light gray. Diana is knitting one up now with those colors. We had the idea of using different colors so we found a few more ‘normal’ combinations.  Then our imaginations took over and we had so much fun finding more unusual color mixes. Those of us who couldn’t wait to cast on had a hard time deciding what we want our shawl to look like.

Spincycle and Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok; just think of the possibilities!

It’s always a bit of an adventure to take a pattern and put your own twist on it. Changing the color is an easy way to personalize it just for you! We found yarns that we felt would be a good substitute and went wild with the color combinations!

Does anyone want CSU colors? Woolstok has great colors for many schools. Other yarns on top are MYak and Julie Asselin. On the bottom, from left to right are Malabrigo Washt, Clinton Hill Cashmere, and Malabrigo Rios.

We stayed within the same yarn brand for our ideas because there were just too many options if we didn’t! Let yourself go wild with this….you can put a plied yarn and a singles yarn together, you can use yarns from more than one company, you can be bold or subtle, the world is your oyster!

Clinton Hill Cashmere….so many subtle or bold choices!

We want you to come in and take over the community table with your favorite options! We’ll of course offer up our opinions because it’s so much fun but the final choice is yours to make. Maybe we’ll even have a fashion show in the fall to ooh and aah over everyone’s Moonstruck Wraps!

Happy Knitting!

Jenny
