Rare Wing and a Prayer Farm Yarn!

Wing and a Prayer Farm is a glorious, magical place!  When driving down the lane you first see the imposing red and white barn and around it are the animals:  sheep, alpacas, angora goats, miniature donkeys, horses, dogs, cats, chickens, ducks, and turkeys.  If you look closely into the dye garden on the left, you might catch a glimpse of Princess Peppermint the Guinea Hog. It’s important to know that each of these animals has a name except maybe some of the chickens!

I first visited there a few years ago and my dream was to bring Tammy White’s story and yarn to My Sister Knits.  Since Tammy’s yarn is normally found only at fiber festivals on the east coast, it seemed unlikely. However, we now have some of her precious yarn at the shop!

Tammy and Jubilee, a Swiss Valais Blacknose lamb who needed special care this past spring

You might call Wing and a Prayer Farm a one-stop fiber farm.  Tammy cares lovingly for her flock of animals; they are shorn on the farm, she grows the plants to dye the yarn, and dyes it herself.  The only time her fiber leaves the farm is to be processed and spun into the yummy yarn that we can knit with.

In fact, when you buy a skein of Tammy’s yarn, you just might be lucky enough to find a teeny bit of Wing and a Prayer vegetation in it!  A direct link back to the sheep, alpaca, or goat!

Tammy’s yarn tags are filled out with the names of the animals who contribute their coats to the loveliness!  She also adds the names of the plants that were used to create the soft colorways.

Thelma and Louise

We encourage you to follow ‘wingandaprayerfarm’ on instagram. Tammy gives us an education about breed-specific fiber farming, dye gardens, lambing (she often stays up with the mamas all night and will bottle feed the babies as necessary), and so many other aspects of the life and times of a fiber farmer.  All with beautiful photos of the animals!

Located in idyllic Shaftsbury, Vermont, Tammy is within a few hours drive of the mills she uses to process her raw fiber into yarn. She often takes homemade pie and fresh eggs from her chickens to share with the mill workers!

When you purchase Tammy’s yarn, you are paying for everything that goes into the final product including but not limited to:  feed, farm upkeep, hoof trimming, veterinary care, lambing supplies, shearing, electricity for the barn, fencing, the dye garden, pasture care, property taxes, absolutely everything that is needed to produce her yarn!

100% Cormo

We have bouncy, squishy 100% Cormo yarn and Thelma and Louise, a strong and soft 50/50 blend of wool and mohair with a gorgeous luster and a bit of a halo.  Both are DK weight.

We invite you into My Sister Knits to choose your own piece of delightful and precious Wing and a Prayer Farm before it disappears.  This rare appearance in our shop is truly special!
