Mosaic knitting is a fun and meditative style of knitting, and the Chapter Shawl or Chapter Cushion by Lily Kate Francis is an excellent project to utilize this style of colorwork while also using up your scraps or mini-skeins. This single session class will get you familiar with the technique of slipped stitches and overall technique of the patterns. You will also receive assistance in planning out your colors. You should know how to knit flat prior to taking this class.

Yarn requirements
For the Chapter Shawl, you will need approximately 20 grams each of fingering weight yarn. The pattern is written for 12 different colors, as there are 12 different “chapters”, but you may use fewer or have repeating sections. While this pattern will work for any weight of yarn, please note that lighter weight yarns (lace, fingering, sport, etc) will result in a smaller, thinner scarf that is easier to tie around your shoulders.

For the Chapter Cushion, you can use any yarn weight - thinner yarn will result in a smaller pillow while thicker yarn will result in a larger pillow. The weight of yarn should be consistent throughout the project - for example, if you want to make the worsted weight version, all the yarn you use should be worsted. You can use as few as 2 colors or as many as 8. The pattern includes several different striping options, as well as blank coloring pages, so you may wish to look at those when deciding how many colors you would like to use in this project. The yardage needed will vary based on the pattern you would like to make. Please see Gretchen in store if you would like help picking your yarn or have any questions on the amount of yarn needed.

Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the beginning of your class so the teacher may begin promptly.
Class Size
Classes are usually limited to 6 adults- 16 years* and above. Class size is often smaller for beginning level classes and other classes where more one-on-one attention is necessary. We may accommodate larger numbers for lecture style classes and workshops by visiting teachers. * Under 16 years of age needs instructor approval
We also offer kids classes for our younger customers. Parents and kids may wish to schedule a private lesson by calling the store.
Homework
Some classes have homework which needs to be completed prior to the first class. Please check the class description page for homework required. It is also important that you complete your homework between meetings so classes can progress as scheduled.
Payment
Payment is required at time of registration. We cannot reserve seats for unpaid students. You may sign up online using credit card/Paypal; or someone may assist you signing up in the shop. If the class is full -please call to be put on a wait list.
Missed Classes
We are unable to offer free make-up sessions for missed classes or for cancellations. After payment is taken, we cannot credit your class fee if you cancel less than one week prior to your class. No credit will be given if you cancel for a special event class.
MSK Cancellation
We may cancel classes with only one student registered 48 hours prior to first class; and store credit or refund will be given.
