This class is for those who are desiring to progress in their knitting skills to making garments and is intended to help you become confident in tackling sweater knitting in the future. We will discuss different sweater construction methods, learn how to decipher gauge and sizing, how to modify a pattern to your needs. Students have the opportunity to select from three different sweater patterns. Class fee includes a pattern and yarn consultation with Tiina prior to the beginning of the class.

What techniques will be taught? Picking a pattern, sweater construction, gauge, various techniques depending on pattern.

What level of knitting knowledge is required to take this class?

This is an adventurous beginner class. Must be able to knit and purl, knit flat and in the round.

Supplies needed for the class depend on the choice of pattern. Please schedule time with Tiina to select pattern and appropriate yarn. When selecting a pattern look at the projects in Ravelry see more color and construction options.

Pattern Choices:

Purls of Wisdom:

The Purls of Wisdom Sweater is a round yoke seamless pullover knit from the top-down. With just a bit of purl-stitch texture in the yoke, this sweater is ideal for a first sweater knitting project. With 9 sizes, this sweater is worn with 5-10 cm (2-4 in) positive ease at the chest.

Seela:

Seela is a relaxed, basic sweater that you won’t get enough of and suitable for beginners, too! Seela is knitted from the top down in the round with raglan increases (raglan “seams” are deeper than usual). The yoke is shaped with a few short rows. Seela has a lot of positive ease, also on the sleeves, but it is still easy to wear, all thanks to its light fluffiness.

Oslo Sweater:

The Oslo Sweater is worked from the top down with the back yoke worked back and forth on a circular needle. Stitches are picked up and knitted for the shoulders. Back and front are joined at the bottom of the armholes to form the body, which is worked in the round on a circular needle and shaped with decreases. Sleeves and neck edge are worked from stitches which are picked up and knitted at the end.

Homework required to be completed prior to class: Meet with Tiina and make a swatch according to your pattern.
