The Classic by Espace Tricot is a wonderful staple sweater to have in your wardrobe, and a great introduction to sweater knitting. In this class, we will cover gauge swatching, interpreting sizing in a pattern, and choosing a size to knit based on your measurements and ideal fit. We will also cover twisted rib, german short rows and top-down raglan sweater construction. This would be a great class for advanced beginners or anyone who is new to making garments. Please note that this class is two sessions and is designed to provide you support and guidance through the early stages of the project so that you feel confident completing the rest of the sweater in your own time, but the entire sweater will not be completed during class time. You should be comfortable with knits and purls, and knitting in the round prior to taking this class.

Homework required to be completed prior to class:
Prior to class, please gather your supplies, including purchasing your pattern and yarn. If you aren’t sure about your yarn, you can buy one skein to swatch and then purchase the rest later after you complete your swatch! Using the recommended needles, cast on approximately 30 stitches using your preferred cast on and knit a swatch in the round in stockinette stitch. It is important to swatch in the round, because the bulk of this sweater will be knit in the round and you want to capture your most accurate tension for that technique. If you have never knit a swatch in the round, here is a video that explains how to do it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4A59F9L4P-E
Measure your gauge and record it. Next, block your swatch. To block a knitting swatch, soak it in lukewarm water with a bit of wool wash for 15-20 minutes, then gently squeeze out excess water without wringing. Lay the damp swatch flat on a towel and allow it to air dry completely. This process helps the fibers relax and settle, giving you a more accurate gauge measurement for your project. Measure your gauge a second time and write those measurements down.
