In the Stockholm Slipover class, we will cover gauge swatching, interpreting sizing in a pattern, and choosing a size to knit based on your measurements and ideal fit. We will also cover the following techniques: German short rows, picking up stitches neatly for collars and armholes and the Italian bind off. This would be a great class for advanced beginners or anyone who is new to making garments. You should be comfortable with knit and purl stitches and knitting in the round prior to taking this class. You can choose to make the slipover with or without a v-neck.

Homework required to be completed prior to class:

Prior to class, please gather your supplies, including purchasing your pattern and deciding which version of the Slipover you will be making (regular or V-neck). Using the recommended needles, cast on approximately 30 stitches using your preferred cast on and knit a swatch in stockinette that is 5-6 inches in length. Bind off. Measure your gauge (how many stitches and rows you have per inch and/or 4 inches) and write those measurements down.

Next, block your swatch. To block a knitting swatch, soak it in lukewarm water with a bit of wool wash for 15-20 minutes, then gently squeeze out excess water without wringing. Lay the damp swatch flat on a towel and allow it to air dry completely. This process helps the fibers relax and settle, giving you a more accurate gauge measurement for your project. Measure your gauge a second time and write those measurements down. Your goal before coming to class is to have the following information about your swatch (please note you don’t have to have these exact numbers):

Gauge before blocking: 4.0 stitches per 1 inch or 17 stitches over 4 inches and 27 rows in 4 inches

Gauge after blocking: 4.5 stitches per 1 inch or 19 stitches over 4 inches and 27 rows in 4 inches
