This class meets for three sessions.
Learn how to knit a basic vanilla sock. We’ll go over anatomy of a sock, stitch counts, knitting a flap & gusset heel, toe options and grafting the toe. We’ll also discuss ways to modify to get the best fit.
Supplied pattern includes both fingering and DK weight measure so yarn weight is up to you. DK weight is highly recommended for new/slower knitters (sock yarn knitters will have more homework during the week).
What techniques will be taught? German Twisted Cast-on, ssk & k2tog, picking up stitches and Kitchener stitch.
What level of knitting knowledge is required to take this class? Adventurous Beginner. Must know how to knit & purl. Magic loop and knowing how to join in the round is helpful. This class is taught using magic loop, but some assistance with DPNs can be provided.
Supplies:
1 Skein of sock (fingering with a percentage of nylon) or DK weight yarn totaling 100g
Good choices include:
Salty Blonde
Circus Tonic
Blacker DK weights
Needles:US 1 Long Circular - at least 32” or your favorite small circumference needles for fingering weight socks
US 4 Long Circular - at least 32” or your favorite small circumference needls for DK weight socks
Notions/miscellaneous supplies needed: Snips or scissors, a tape measure or sock ruler, tapestry needle
Homework required to be completed prior to class: Gather supplies

Class Materials/Preparation
Class materials may be purchased for 10% discount before the day of the first class - some restrictions may apply. Project patterns are also available at a 10% discount; no charge for free patterns. Please plan ahead so that we are sure to have what you need and ready for you at your first class!
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to the beginning of your class so the teacher may begin promptly.
Class Size
Classes are usually limited to 6 adults - 16 years* and above. Class size is often smaller for beginning level classes and other classes where more one-on-one attention is necessary. We may accommodate larger numbers for lecture style classes and workshops by visiting teachers. * Under 16 years of age needs instructor approval
We also offer kids classes for our younger customers. Parents and kids may wish to schedule a private lesson by calling the store.
Homework
Some classes have homework which needs to be completed prior to the first class. Please check the class description page for homework required. It is also important that you complete your homework between meetings so classes can progress as scheduled.
Payment
Payment is required at time of registration. We cannot reserve seats for unpaid students. You may sign up online using credit card/Paypal; or someone may assist you signing up in the shop. If the class is full- please call to be put on a wait list.
Missed Classes
We are unable to offer free make-up sessions for missed classes or for cancellations. After payment is taken, we cannot credit your class fee if you cancel less than one week prior to your class. No credit will be given if you cancel for a special event class.
MSK Cancellation
We may cancel classes with only one student registered 48 hours prior to first class; and store credit or refund will be given.
