Mitchell Wool Co. Launch Party!

My Sister Knits Launch Party for Mitchell Wool Co. American Fiber yarns is Saturday, June 8th! To those of you reading this from your email instead of the website, that means today! We encourage you to finish your Saturday morning coffee or tea and come on over!

Our presentation starts at 10:30 in the back garden. We hope that those of you knitting in the front yard for Knit in Public Day will join us. We’ll be trooping from the front to the back and then to the front again!

We’ll give you the fascinating background story of this special yarn. You’ll also be able to see and feel the samples and knit a few rows with all of the different yarns.

Plus, you’ll get to sample Ummber’s Ice Cream from Morning Fresh Dairy!

We’re getting four yarns made with the softest of the soft Rambouillet fibers: worsted, DK, fingering, and sock with 25% Tencel for strength. Rambouillet is an old breed that blended Spanish Merino sheep with native French sheep on the Rambouillet farm near Paris.

We’re also getting a BFL (Blue Faced Leicester) fingering. BFL sheep is a relatively new breed, originating in northern England during the early 1900s from the Border Leicester. The ‘blue’ in the name refers to white hairs on black skin that creates their ‘blue’ face.

The BFL fingering is most excellent for colorwork! Sherry, the founder of Mitchell Wool Co., says that you can have extra long floats in your colorwork because of the ‘stickiness’ of the yarn. It will felt to itself just enough to catch the floats on its own!

When you’re knitting on our swatches, we want you to try some cables or textured stitches to see the stitch definition!

When you buy this yarn, you support the dwindling American fiber industry every step of the way from being on the back of the sheep to a finished product just off your needles. We are so excited to have it on our shelves but we don’t think it will stay on them for long!

Please bring your own chair and plan to spend some time at My Sister Knits this Saturday enjoying the company of others while you knit and learn about Mitchell Wool Co.!

Happy knitting,
