Too Hot to Knit? Never!

It’s so hot this week that knitting, even in air conditioning, has its drawbacks. Who wants the bulk of a sweater sitting on their lap when it’s in the high 90s?

My Sister Knits has an answer for you! We’ve mentioned it before but the Endless Skinny Scarf is just the project for weather like this! It’s also a perfect project for social knitting and travel knitting and will calm your mind if you have worries, such as a loved one who is sick.

Choose your variegated/speckled or self-striping yarn first…….

The Endless Skinny Scarf, designed by saperlot, is free on Ravelry and it’s so easy…..just cast on 43 stitches and make stockinette stitch fabric (knit one row, purl one row) for 86” or your desired length. The edges are supposed to roll in so there are no edge stitches to worry about. These scarves are the ultimate ‘it’ accessory right now. They’re all about adding a bit of drama, texture, and instant flair to simple tops and dresses.

then choose your solid and start!

Now, we know that knitting stockinette forever might be what you need at the moment but it also might be a tad more mind-numbing than you want. We have a fun solution for you! Use a self-striping or variegated fingering weight yarn and alternate it with a solid. We suggest not counting rows to have evenly spaced blocks of color. Just wing it and change yarns whenever you feel like it! Make some blocks of color narrower, some wider, some really skinny, some extra wide. Throw caution and counting to the winds and just go for it! Since the edges roll under, just carry the yarn you aren’t using up the side. This video will help.

Make Your Own Monster kit

We have some totally adorable Make Your Own Monster kits from designer Donna Wilson. Donna grew up in the north of Scotland and has been creating colorful knitted products in her East London studio since 2003. These little monsters require no knitting and would be fun projects for both adults and kids. I know that when my own kids were little, sometimes the weeks before school started needed an infusion of something different to do. Yes, it’s only July but Poudre School District starts for everyone August 19th!

The Hot August Knits Yarn Crawl Grand Prize baskets have been assembled! They’re chock-a-block full of goodies! There are several yarn/pattern combinations, knitting notions from Coco Knits, more yarn, large bottles of Eucalan Wool Wash, and something quite special from Addi knitting needles.

Have you planned your route yet? All shops will be open all of the days of the yarn crawl, August 1st through the 9th. The website is full of helpful information so be sure to check it out!

When you’re in the shop, go upstairs and peruse the ‘sock wall’ to find yarns for your skinny scarf! We’ll be happy to help with suggestions!

Happy stitching,
