Ideas for Your HAK Yarn Crawl Mini Skeins!
Here at My Sister Knits we are getting the final details ready for the Hot August Knits Yarn Crawl, August 1st through the 9th, which will be here in two shakes of a lamb’s tail. (ha ha) All participating shops will be open every day during the crawl and will have special events planned to add to the fun!
Currently we’re excited about our samples knit with the mini skein colors. It’s so fun to add each new color to a project and see it develop!
We have three samples, with more to come, including socks. There will be lots of ideas of how to use your mini skeins in the shop!
We have an unusual, stunning small shawl that utilizes slipped stitches to create the textured design. English designer Lily Kate France wanted a use for mini skeins and her Chapter Shawl is the result! Slipped stitches, aka mosaic knitting, are one of our favorite colorwork techniques. You only use one color per row, slipping some stitches and knitting others. You don’t need to worry about a thing, just knit!
The back of the shawl is particularly eye-catching!
If skinny scarves and stripes are more to your liking, we have two samples of French designer Charlotte Saperlot’sEndless Skinny Scarf, a retro replica of one worn by Lorelai (the mom) in The Gilmore Girls tv show. It’s a free pattern on Ravelry and is about 8 inches wide and 86 inches long, or as long as you want to make it.
This is a wonderful pattern to let your imagination run wild with the striping. You could completely wing it or plan out your stripes to the last row. You could use up all of one color and go on to the next or mix them up. It’s up to you because you’re the boss of your own knitting! The edges naturally curl under due to the stockinette stitch and is part of the charm of this scarf.
We love the color palette of this set of mini skeins more and more as we knit with them! Keep in mind that each shop has a specific number of their exclusive color and that once they’re gone, they’re gone.
We invite you into My Sister Knits to see our samples and get excited about what you’ll make with your yarn crawl minis!
Happy knitting,
