It’s That Time Again…
At the beginning of each year I like to ponder what I want to learn during the next 12 months. What do I love about knitting in terms of techniques? What do I want to improve? What type of projects might I want to make?
Usually I have at least one project going that requires little concentration and at least one that requires my attention at all times. I am not a ‘one project at a time’ knitter! Sometimes I wish I was but I’ve learned to accept the fact that I’m not!

A sweater with lots of cables had been on my to-do list for ages and this just might be the year I make one. Then there’s brioche; I have a cowl that I started a few years ago that’s been waiting patiently for me to pick it back up. I might need a class to help me be more confident with that one! I’ve taken five brioche classes and most likely could use another one! I really should finish it because it’s with special yarn that I got on a trip.
What is it that you want to make this year? Do you need a class for it? Should you repeat a class because it’s been awhile since you used that particular skill, like brioche for me?
Stockholm Slipover, designed by PetiteKnit
Fortunately, My Sister Knits has a variety of classes to help you! A good place to start are our Learn to Knit and Learn to Knit 2 classes. Next up would be Learn to Fix Mistakes.
Once you have that mastered, you can move on to classes specific to what you want to make.
Wheat Stitch hat, designed by Briana K Designs
We have three upcoming crochet classes. If you act quickly, you might be able to get into Learn to Crochet which starts Wed. Jan 7th. Sign up online or call asap! 970.407.1461 If you already know how to crochet and want to expand your skills, take the Crochet Wheat Stitch Clinic and then you can take the Wheat Stitch Hat class.
There’s a Basic Brioche class for those of you who’d like to learn the basics or brush up on your skills!
Would you like to dip your toes into making a garment? We have two classes for you in February. The Stockholm Slipover and my favorite ‘sweatshirt’, Yoga Pants. Each of these classes is only two hours long and will teach you different skills so you probably want to take both of them!
If you have a child to knit for, the Child’s Growing Garden Sweater would be a great class as a first sweater. You’ll learn all about slipped stitches and sleeves in this dear little sweater for newborns to 2 year olds.
If socks are your goal, there is a Learn to Knit Socks class available to you.
Jaunty scarf, designed by Andrea Mowry
How about Andrea Mowry’s Jaunty scarf that can be made with any weight yarn? You’ll learn to increase, decrease, knit an i-Cord edge and ‘knit in the row below’ to create the pretty Half Fisherman’s Rib stitch.
When Gretchen showed us her Knitting Journal we were blown away. She has graciously offered to teach us how she creates it. We’ve seen so many of these and Gretchen’s is our favorite! What a great way to record your projects! I’m signing up for this one to motivate me to keep a record of my knitting. It’s never too late to start!

We also have some shorter clinics that teach one specific skill. In addition to the crochet wheat stitch clinic, in January we’re offering clinics on the Afterthought Heel, Garter Tab Cast On for shawls (I’ll show you a super cool hack for making this easy!), switching from knitting English to Continental knitting, and short rows. I was afraid of short rows for the longest time and you need to use them for so many things! They don’t need to be scary at all!
There are classes galore to help you reach your knitting goals in 2026 and of course there will be more each month! Call the shop if you have any questions and let us know if there’s a class you’d like to see us offer.
Happy knitting,
