Summer Events are Almost Upon Us!

Summer is almost here! Can you believe it? Somehow everything feels a bit more laid back during the summer months. Our schedules might open up a bit, giving us time to do something different. My Sister Knits has several fun special events planned! It’s never too soon to start planning your summer activities!

Saturday, June 1st, our June KAL (KnitALong) kicks off. We’re going to make the Geology Shawl, designed by verybusymonkey. KALs are a fun time to knit in a group where everyone is making the same thing! You knit at your own pace and watch as everyone’s shawl takes shape. This will occur over the first three Saturdays in June from 10-noon. Geology would be a great project for Worldwide Knit in Public Day!

Saturday, June 8th, is Worldwide Knit in Public Day. This was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes with the hope of bringing together diverse groups of people who shared a love of knitting or crocheting. Danielle lives in Connecticut. In 2011 Astrid Salling, who lives in Copenhagen, Denmark, took it over. It’s always on the second Saturday of June and countries from all over the world host events. The latest countries to add their events to the website are Australia, the UK, Denmark, Sweden, and Lithuania!

My Sister Knits would like to invite you to attend our event! We’re going to knit on the front lawn and wave at the people going up and down Mountain Ave! We’re also going to enjoy some most delicious Ummbers Premium ice cream. Read the story of how Amber Graves, part of the Morning Fresh Dairy team, developed this tasty treat!

If you plan to join us for Worldwide Knit in Public Day, we encourage you to bring a chair! Weather permitting, we’ll be knitting out front all day.

Starting the first Saturday in July, we’re going to celebrate Christmas in July with another KAL. This time, we’ll be making the Holiday Doodle Stocking, designed by Jamie Lomax. This design is genius because you can pick and choose which colorwork patterns you want to use. All of the 34 charts work together. Take a look at the projects on Ravelry to see what others have done! The KAL will go from 9-11 for four Saturdays.

August brings us the 15th year of the Hot August Knits Yarn Crawl. A yarn crawl is when a group of yarn shops band together and invite crafters from all over a region to visit their shops during a certain period of time. There are usually special happenings at each shop and it’s fun to participate! Oftentimes groups of friends travel together although it’s also fun to do it on your own. Mark your calendars because you won’t want to miss this! As the time gets closer and details are worked out, we’ll let you know our special events for this two week period.

During the summer, your schedule might allow you to take part in two regular My Sister Knits events; Tuesday Knit Night from anytime late Tuesday afternoon until 8pm when we close and our monthly Knitting Days. The dates for the summer are Fridays June 28, July 26, and August 23 from 10 - 4.

We have a few more summer happenings up our sleeves! Trunk shows and special kick offs for new yarns are in the works!

We encourage you to mark these occasions down on your summer calendars!

Happy knitting,
