A Little Bit of KAOS is a Good Thing!

Julie has found us another intriguing yarn! KAOS from Denmark is our newest addition.  And, yes, it’s pronounced just like its English counterpart, chaos, and has the same meaning.

KAOS is quite popular in European countries, especially Germany and Denmark. We are the only local yarn shop that carries it in the entire middle of the US!

KAOS Organic Soft Merino, fingering weight, 50 grams, 246 yards per ball

Knitting is a tactile activity and this yarn is so soft; knitting with it is like cutting through wam butter! I love a good rustic yarn but sometimes I want something soft and this is it! And the colors! They range from muted and calm to vibrant and expressive.

The colors of KAOS yarn are named after their color psychological qualities. For instance, there’s a darker blue named ‘Enigmatic’,  a gold named ‘Fortunate’, and a pink called ‘Gentle’. As I said, this yarn is intriguing! You’ll have to look at them when you come into My Sister Knits!

We’re carrying two of their yarns. One base is fingering weight Organic Soft Merino and the other is fingering weight Organic Brushed Alpaca.

The Merino comes from Argentinian sheep and is spun in Peru in a family-owned Fair Trade spinning mill. The Fair Trade certification ensures good working conditions for everyone creating this yarn.

KAOS Organic Brushed Alpaca, fingering weight, 25 grams, 246 yards per ball

The Brushed Alpaca is a mix of Baby Alpaca and Suri Alpaca from Peru and is also spun at a family-owned Fair Trade spinning mill in Peru. The question is, is it the same mill?  We do not know, it depends on if that one mill has the machinery to spin both fibers!

KAOS’ passion is the use of color and how it affects and can change our mood. It might be fun to intentionally choose one of their colors for a project and then ponder that particular color’s description as you knit. We have booklets that describe their colors for you!

A sad good-bye to Shibui Knits yarn

We are so sorry to see the end of our dearly beloved Shibui Knits yarn. We have loved this exquisite yarn and the elegant, sophisticated patterns that were designed for it. Shibui taught us much about knitting with two yarns and the fabrics that could result; anything created with a Shibui yarn stood out as something special.

We especially enjoyed our relationship with Sandy Barnes. We loved her visits when she generously shared her knowledge and friendship. We shall miss Shibui, both the yarn itself and the relationship we had with the people of Shibui.

Hurry into the shop and get your last skeins while we still have some!

Happy knitting,
