Two Exceptional Events!

My Sister Knits has two extra special events coming up!

On Tuesday, September 6th, our beloved Sandy Barnes from Shibui will be at the shop from 4pm - 6pm! Sandy is a treasure and we know you’ll love her if you haven’t met her yet!

By now you are familiar with the concept of mixing yarns to create custom fabric.  Let’s take it to the next level by Color Mixing to create your own color effects. Join Sandy for a Color Mixing Class! Take this opportunity to get creative with the colors you love to invent gorgeous and unexpected color effects. Bring a US 3, US 5, US 6, US 10, and a US 10.5. We’ll provide the yarn and inspiration.

This will be a drop-in hands on experience to explore color mixing; come when you can during that time! Sandy will bring color mixing samples and lots of yarn already wound. You can play to your heart’s content!

Shibui Knits’ new yarn, Murmur

Sandy will also bring samples of Shibui’s new yarn Murmur. Murmur is a bulky weight with chainette construction. The chainette creates a lovely, soft, lightweight yarn. Diana is currently knitting a sample for us. You’ll be able to see and feel it, finished or not, on the 6th!

Our other exceptional event is a visit from Lindsey Fowler, author of Salt & Timber, Knits from the Northern Coast, brought to us by Laine Publishing. Lindsey will be at My Sister Knits on Tuesday, September 27th from 10 until 4.

Salt and Timber, available for purchase beginning August 26th, is a stunningly beautiful book, as we have come to expect from Laine Publishing. This book of patterns is Lindsey’s love letter to the ocean and the Oregon coast. She channeled all of the things she loves about the forests, beaches, and mountains of the Pacific Northwest into her designs.

Cape Lookout Shawl

She designs her projects to feel like slack tide, the time in between the tide coming in and going out, a brief moment when the tide is neutral. The water is calm. Lindsey’s designs feel relaxed and unrushed. Reading the descriptions and the snippets of her life that she includes, you realize that Lindsey’s patterns have immense meaning. She even creates mood boards for them! There is so much thought and love that goes into each one! You’ll know you’re creating something special when you make one of her projects.

Bowline Wrap

There’s something for everyone in this incredible book. Shawls, socks, hats, mitts, sweaters! There are excellent directions and tutorials. And the photos! They make you want to book a vacation house on the beach in Oregon, in the winter, no less! Make sure it has big picture windows and a fireplace to sit next to and knit while it storms outside; you’ll be in a little bit of heaven!

Lindsey will bring samples from the book and a selection of kits put together by Rachel of Six and Seven Fiber.

We highly recommend that you put both of these dates on your calendars as they are our two most exceptional events of 2022!

Reminder:

Saturday, September 3rd is the Tour de Fat! Bring your lawn chairs, avail yourself of the coffee cart we’ll have on our driveway, and watch the fun-filled parade from our front yard! This is always such a joy-filled morning! We suggest you arrive by 9:30. Keep in mind that parking will be on side streets as Mountain Ave. will be closed.

Happy knitting,
