Let's Have Some Fun!
Let’s have some fun! Having been around My Sister Knits in the fall for years, I’ve seen the Christmas stockings that people knit. I’ve admired them but have never wanted to knit one myself. Among my hesitations about making them are: I don’t knit socks, they’d take too much time while I was finishing other gifts, I was too busy otherwise, you get the picture!
My feelings this year were the same, until yesterday. I was looking at the stocking that Julie is making and it’s so pretty! The Knit A Long came to mind and immediately I said “no” to myself as usual. But then something happened. I thought, “Why not?” Why not have some fun on three Wednesday afternoons in November knitting something special with others? I’ll need to rearrange my schedule but, again, why not let myself do something fun and lighthearted and even add to my skills in the process?
Who wants to join me? Carol will run this fun holiday KAL on Wednesdays November 2nd, 9th, and 16th from 3-4:30. Julie assures me that this is a good way to make your first sock. My plan is to figure it out as I go and not get intimidated! Julie’s preferred pattern is the Churchmouse Basic Christmas Stockings pattern, which is the one Carol will be making.
We also have kits for the colorwork one Julie is making right now. You may use any Christmas stocking pattern you like, our only requirement is that you purchase the yarn at the shop. The Churchmouse pattern has so many options it can be overwhelming. I’m going with either the one with buttons or the one with the colorwork star at the top. The one with the buttons caught my eye first so it just might be that one! Now to choose colors!
Socktober Update
We have collected over 200 pairs of socks! Surely before October is over we can get over 100 more pairs! We want to top the 300 pairs we collected last year. These need to be new, store-bought socks. They’re desperately needed so let’s show our generosity and help out!
Staff Favorites
Several of us chose a favorite item from the shop that we recommend for holiday gifts!
Julie - Coco Knits Maker’s Board and rulers
Diana - Sophie Scarf pattern and yarn
Jenny - The Knitting Barber cords to hold stitches
Carol - Coco Knits stitch markers
Tiina - DellaQ Maker’s Canvas Portfolio
Superwash and Non Superwash yarn
We were having a discussion in the shop about the differences between Superwash and Non Superwash yarn. As we start the season for gift knitting, we thought it would be helpful to add a link to this post and this post so you can be an informed consumer!
Think about joining the Christmas Stocking KAL! Keep in mind that this is not a class but if those of us who have never knit socks can read the pattern, we should be able to figure out the toe and heel between us! It looks fiddly but not difficult. Carol will offer suggestions and guidance but she isn’t there to teach us!
Happy knitting,
