A Truly Unique Yarn!
Kelsey Stephens, owner of Primrose Yarn Company, has come up with a brilliant idea! Her new yarn, Roan, is a combination of 60% superwash yarn and 40% non-superwash wool.
As a result, Roan has a pleasing balance of the best qualities of both types of yarn!
Some qualities of superwash yarn
It won’t felt when put in the washing machine
It has plenty of drape
It absorbs color readily which produces deeply saturated colors
It feels sleek and soft
It doesn’t pill
It’s great for lace knitting because the yarn overs will stay open and show up beautifully after its blocked
Some qualities of non-superwash yarn
It has flexibility, elasticity, resilience, and memory
The finished product will keep its shape and not stretch
The colors are more subtle
Because the stitches are closely connected to each other the finished product has extra warmth
The stitches are round and plump, making textured stitches such as cables stand out
It feels pillowy
These qualities are blended together in DK weight Roan, creating a truly unique yarn unlike any other on the market. We are eager to start knitting with it and can’t wait to hear how you like it!
We just received a shipment of another of Kelsey’s yarns, Homestead, which is a sport weight. We’re certain you’re going to delight in these colorful skeins! Keep in mind that each skein is unique. When you’re purchasing more than one of the same colorway, we encourage you to look at them carefully to be sure you’re going to be pleased with how they look together.
Kelsey credits her parents’ unfailing support for her inspiration to create Primrose Yarn Co. She attended Tyler School of Art at Temple University in Philadelphia; there she learned what materials she needed, where to get them, and how to use them. It was the perfect training for her love of colors and dyeing yarn!
It’s fun to know that she chose the name Primrose because it’s the name of a flower that means ‘unable to live without’.
You’ll find Roan displayed on the wall on our ground floor and Homestead upstairs in a cubby. We invite you in to discover these two yarns!
Happy Knitting,
Jenny
