Two Marvelous Discoveries!

My Sister Knits is thrilled to announce two marvelous discoveries!

First is Yarn Hero Fiber Arts! Julie manages to spot glorious yarns that are not readily available to local yarn shops. Yarn Hero is one of them and we have a trunk show arriving on Saturday, August 1st.

Graphic Designer Lynnell Koser is the one-woman owner/operator of Yarn Hero. She hand paints the wool at home in Ijamsville, Maryland before sending it out to a local family-run mill to be spun into yarn, producing a hand spun look.

When she was learning and experimenting with spinning and dyeing yarn, Lynnell created enough of a stash to joke about using it as insulation! She began selling it on Etsy in 2006. Her yarn is found mostly at local fiber and yarn festivals in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Maryland.

Her signature yarn is the Color Mix Collection which incorporates delightful color changes, blends, and marls while creating subtle gradients of colors. She is sending us a variety of weights and we cannot wait to unpack her yarn when it arrives! Yarn trunk shows are different than sample trunk shows in that the yarn is for sale. Be sure to mark your calendars to get the best selection!

The other discovery that galvanized Julie into action is the Durand Cowl, designed by Tara-Lynn Morrison.  She made three in a matter of days! Sharon Wall (@Sharon Wall 83 on instagram) brought in this pattern to show us and we are so happy she did! This cowl is a quick summer project that can get you started on your holiday gift knitting. There are 8 rounds that are repeated 4 times, for a total of 32 rounds. It is all knit and purl in a diagonal ribbed pattern. The all-important fringe is attached as a last step and can be accomplished in literally minutes!

Our three samples are made from Brooklyn Tweed Quarry held double, The Farmer’s Daughter Fibers Pishkun held double, and Toft Chunky held singly. Each of our cowls is a little different in size depending on the yarn choice.

Julie made two modifications to the pattern. She used size 13 needles instead of size 17 and she cast on 60 stitches instead of 48. We invite you to check out all three of our samples!
