Join Our MSK KAL!

My Sister Knits is hosting a KAL (Knit ALong) on Facebook! This will be a fantastic way to keep connected!

We’re making Elizabeth Doherty’s Meditate cowl.  She’s offering this pattern for free until March 31st.  Elizabeth designed it when she needed a soothing knit in her personal life and now she’s offering it to knitters everywhere.  When you find it on Ravelry it will look as if you have to pay for it but you don’t. It will show up as free when you hit ‘buy’.

This cowl is knit flat, not in the round.  It is mainly garter stitch with some slipped stitches that form elegant little bands of double knitting.  There are directions for a short and a long version. Elizabeth designed this pattern to use almost every single bit of a skein.  Because it’s knit flat, you work the cowl until you have about six yards of yarn left and then you work the buttonhole band. She gives us precise directions on how to make that buttonhole band!

When you are at the pattern page in Ravelry, you can check out the ‘projects’ tab and see the three pages of photos.  It’s helpful and fun to see the variety of yarns that have been used. Take a moment to read some of the project comments also.  One person said that it was ‘the most relaxing knit of all time’! Another one said that it had ‘exquisite details’ and yet another said, “this is the squishiest thing that ever squished”!

Meditate takes one skein of fingering yarn.  If you happen to be so lucky as to have a stash, go on a search and see if there’s a skein of lusciousness that you’ve been waiting to use!  This design will work best with a drapey yarn. Hold it upright by one end. If it flops over, it’s drapey. If it stands straight up it might not be the best choice.  If you need yarn, email julie@mysisterknits.com or call the shop at 970.407.1461 and Julie will help you choose something that you’ll love. She’ll text you photos so you’ll know what you’re buying! If you’re local, we can arrange to deliver your yarn or it can be shipped. We can also supply you with needles and stitch markers!

We invite one and all to join our KAL! There are no time limits, you can start whenever is good for you and we don’t have an end date. Our goal is to have some fun and socialize even while we’re physically distancing ourselves.  See you on Facebook!
