SPRIGS & Stone
Sprigs and Stone yarn comes to us from Alisha in Olympia, Washington. There are so many things we want you to know about this yarn, we hardly know where to start!
We are incredibly happy to be among the first to discover this yarn! It has been available for less than a year and knitters beyond the Pacific Northwest are just becoming aware of it. We are one of three yarn shops in the US to carry it and we imagine that number will increase dramatically as it becomes better known.
Sprigs and Stone is named to reflect Alisha’s connection with nature and the outdoors. Her colorways are indicative of that bond; you won’t find any bubble gum pink in this yarn!
Alisha is a part-time ER nurse who noticed a project on her colleague’s Ravelry page one day during a lull at work about six years ago. She fell in love with the colorwork mittens, discovered helpful knitting tutorials by one of our favorites, VeryPink Knits, and she was off and knitting!
Alisha considers herself a knitter first and foremost and sees her dyeing as being in the service of knitting. Her dreams are filled with cables and texture and she creates colorways to showcase those techniques.
Sprigs and Stone grew out of Alisha’s enjoyment of putting two colorways together to develop a marled look and of creating her own fades. She felt as if she was painting with her knitting and she got so much pleasure out of it she decided to attempt dyeing! She’d been knitting with hand dyed yarn and saw a lack of hand dyed tonal colorways so she got to work!
As Alisha creates her beautiful, softly tonal colorways, she is constantly thinking about what makes her hand dyed yarn more special and worth the investment rather than commercially dyed yarn. At the forefront of her mind are the knitters who will create exquisite projects with her yarn and she wants it to be worthy of them.
The Sprigs and Stone colorways are elegant, refined, and flattering. We have two of her yarns, both fingering weight.
Hearty Fingering is a blend of 55% superwash Merino, 25% Nylon, and 20% Mohair. The extra amount of nylon plus the mohair create a fabric that is strong and can stand up to hard wear.
Mer-Yak Fingering is a blend of 70% superwash Merino, 20% Yak, and 10% Nylon. Yak fiber rivals cashmere in softness, and adds loft, bounce, and warmth to this yarn!
We invite you into the shop to ohhh and ahhh over this luscious yarn!
