A New FDF Yarn: Recollect
The Farmer’s Daughter Fibers has a new yarn and Julie, along with several staff members, absolutely adores it! Sarah just bought a sweater quantity of it!
Recollect is a plied sport weight yarn that is 100% Rambouillet. Most Rambouillet is white but Farmer’s Daughter’s is 75% white and 25% black. The unusual, hard to find combination of colors creates a gray base resulting in colors that are delightfully rich and rustic.
Rambouillet sheep are well suited to life in Wyoming and Montana. They are a hardy bunch, can thrive on the grasslands in those states, and don’t mind the weather. One fun fact about Rambouillet is that, even though they spread out during the day to graze, at night they gather and sleep close together. This definitely helps deter predators and makes you imagine all sorts of conversations they might have!
Merino is generally regarded as the softest of wool and Rambouillet is considered a first cousin of Merino. It isn’t quite as soft or lustrous but it has an airiness that creates more warmth and bounce. With a pure Rambouillet yarn you get a fiber that’s almost as soft as Merino but it’s warmer.
Recollect is an exceptional yarn for textured patterns due to its excellent stitch definition. However, it would make a beautiful stockinette garment for that same reason.
A look at the projects on Ravelry’s page for Recollect shows several High Lonesome sweaters. Caitlin Hunter of Boyland Knitworks designed this sweater with a colorwork yoke that uses Recollect as the main color and Spincycle Dreamstate as the contrasting yoke color.
We’re finding that simple projects are in demand right now so if a sweater isn’t on your ‘must do next’ list, the list of projects that would work well with this yarn is quite long indeed! We invite you into the shop or to call us and we’ll be more than happy to help you find a project that you will love!
