Sophie Revisited

The Sophie Scarf, designed by PetiteKnit, took the knitting world by storm when it was published in July, 2022. They are all over the place! There are over 16,700 projects posted on Ravelry!

Just when we thought we had enough Sophies at My Sister Knits, we have one more that is almost a requirement for springtime or summer evenings! It is so delicate and beautiful, it would be perfect at a wedding or graduation or a special outing. The term ‘gossamer’ comes to mind when describing it!

This enchanting Sophie is made with one skein of Julie Asselin Boucle and two skeins of Ito Sensai. The Ito is held double and you change yarn every four rows.

Choose your Boucle downstairs, then take it up to the Ito Sensai selection and play with options!

We suggest that you take your yarn outside to check the color compatibility!

One of the reasons Sophie is so popular is that it lends itself to variations, limited only by the knitter’s imagination. You can change the yarn, change the needle size, knit it straight for a while in the middle to change its shape, and experiment with color in all sorts of ways.

Put some pom poms on it!

A great friend of the shop, Cindy, has had so much fun creating a huge assortment of Sophies and she keeps coming up with new ones! Feast your eyes on these beauties and see if they spark your creativity and give you ideas for your own unique Sophie.

The one on the left has Spincycle as one of the yarns, the center one is knit on small needles with fingering weight and is color blocked, the one on the right has Make It Tweed added. So many ideas and different looks!

The black and white is sophisticated, the one on the right is knit with Ito Sensai and Kin Gin added for a shimmer. You need to see it in person to get the full effect!

Once you have an idea, we can help you with the details if you like.

Knitting Day is Friday, March 22nd from 10:00 until 4:00. Everyone is invited! Wouldn’t you like some uninterrupted knitting time mixed in with laughter and friendship? If you’ve wanted to come but haven’t, make this the month! Come at any time and stay as long, or as short, as you want!

Time is getting short to donate to the Street Dog Coalition. Read about this worthy organization here. We’ll take donations for another couple of weeks.

We have a trunk show from Kelbourne Woolens of items made with Scout! Come in and see what it feels like knit up into sweaters or hats or a shawl! You’ll see how this pretty heathery yarn lends itself to everything: cables, colorwork, textures, it’s a wonderful all-purpose yarn!

Happy knitting,
