Diana's Cowl

My Sister Knits has our very own fingering weight cowl pattern for your knitting pleasure!  Actually, it’s Diana’s brainchild so we have named it Diana’s Cowl!

Diana’s Cowl

She used four mini-skeins of Plied from our Trail Point hat kits and a skein of Woolfolk Tynd to create this lovely accessory.

Using size 6 needles, Diana cast on 120 stitches. She knit for 8 inches with the mini-skeins and 8 inches with the Tynd. Voila! A soft, warm cowl perfect to be worn on a daily basis.

A few suggested soft yarns from left to right, Woolfolk Tynd, Woolstok Light, and Walcot Yarns Opus

Now, you can take this basic design and make all sorts of modifications! You could use a full skein of Plied North Ave and a skein of any soft fingering weight yarn. Some of the Plied North Ave skeins will give a striped effect, as with the maroon and blue skeins in the two cowls pictured. Some won’t have any striped effect at all! You won’t know until you start knitting; you can have your own little yarn adventure!

Here’s another idea: have someone in the shop weigh one of our samples as I didn’t think to do that! Halve that number and you’ll have the amount needed for one of the yarns. You can then weigh any leftover fingering weight yarn in your stash to see if you have enough to use.

Let your creative juices run wild with the colors you choose.  Brights? Pastels? Neutrals? Unusual combinations? We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

If you’re knitting on your new cowl in less-than-ideal lighting, you’ll be thankful for one of our rechargeable LED Neck Reading Lights, made in Denver! We think these are fantastic! They hardly weigh anything, they have three color temperatures of white to choose from, and three brightness levels. There is a 30-minute timer if you choose to use it as a reminder to get up and stretch, and a charge can last up to 80 hours. You’ll want to grab one while they last!

Happy knitting,
